Not true.

Most of her performances from Little Earthquakes through to Pele, she just went on stage in jeans and a plain top.

On the Plugged tour in 98 she was going on stage in big baggy jumpers with greasy hair. I enjoyed her "fuck-how-I-look-just-listen-to-me-play" attitude back then.

But she can do what she likes, as long as she's still delivering the goods music-wise (which IMO, she is). It's a shame that image is so important to some people, especially when you're talking about someone as talented as Tori.

i think she's still an amazing artist who seems to always push herself to remain creative. american doll posse was a strong, intelligent, and well crafted socio-political record and is honestly my favorite since pele. i thought abnormally attracted to sin was no less enjoyable then scarlet's walk, even if a little too personal for public consumption.

as for lifting up the skirt at a live show...have you been following her since the beginning? this is nothing new to tori's live show. she's been doing stuff like that since 94 (at least). and back in the days when a halter top and jeans was all she wore, she would simulate masturbation and grind on her piano stool.

finally, part of feminism is owning your choices. where is the byline in the feminist handbook that requires strong women to abstain from fashion, makeup and viewing themselves as sexual beings? not all feminists need be hairy, mannish women...in fact, that kind of suggests to be a feminist you need to be more...manly? tori has always talked fashion, by the way. just listen to any old bootleg where she talksabout shoes on stage.

Couple things:

First: I don't really care what she looks like. I love her albums, I love her live shows. She is extremely talented and that is what matters to me.

Having said that, I'm not sure either of the two pics posted in this thread are real. I've been watching videos and looking at images to see if I noticed all these so-called changes, I can't say that I can. Is there a source for either image?

If the images are real, then the change is recent, as she did not look that way when I met her in '07.

Either way, I'll continue to buy every album.

Silly hateful thread. In regards to how she looks, that's her choice. But I can speak personally after having seen her perform recently that she looks very close to how she's always looked. Most face lifts, if they're done well and you only get it done once (cough*joanrivers*cough) make people look comical at first, but then they relax and the person just looks younger. But still, that's her business and I don't think it has fuck all to do with her music. Her music has changed over time because she's changed. She went through some dark stuff for a while and when she was writing about that stuff her music was clearly more emotionally charged. Since then she's gone into quirky weird Toriland to find things to write about. But that's what makes her interesting to me. I'd be lying if I said that everything she's done was brilliant, but a) a majority of it has been - people just stopped paying attention, and b) she still kills it live.

Oh, and from what I could tell at the show, she STILL loves her piano stool. And how could somebody who is a member of a Prince website question any kind of sexual behavior on stage?

It's fair enough to connect with an artist's work at a specific time in your life, for any number of reasons. Sometimes you just grow older, they grow older, and that "relationship" drifts into another direction.

Her situation is pretty interesting - she's made a nice living writing songs and getting to live anywhere she wants to live, works with her husband, has to figure out the best way to raise her kid and do what she does.

The facelifts and surgeries - she feels she has to maintain her looks because she's in front of thousands of people night after night, as mentioned, will look fine in a couple of years, and odds are when she is into her 50s and 60s, will be complimented on how good she looks at her age.

Her idea of feminism might be different from yours. Her ideas in general are different from a LOT of people.

And interviews rarely reveal who a person is unless they went that in depth with them, or were done by a personal friend of theirs that they'd feel comfortable bringing up unpleasant topics.

Tori and Prince have covered Joni's "A Case of You", and Tori played a bit of "Purple Rain" when she's sung "Hey Jupiter". She didn't steal it, but you can def. hear the influence on it.

I just saw Tori in Dublin on the 16th July, it was the most fantastic concert, her voice sounded great, she looked great (from where I was standing), and was obviously enjoying herself, the last album Abnormally Attracted To Sin is the best since To Venus And Back in my opinion, a very good effort, some really excellent songs that most fans will be delighted to hear for years to come.

Regarding the botox and whatever supposed work she's had done, why would this make anyone ever question her beliefs and credentials regarding her strong stance on issues regarding female empowerment? Besides, she's always been a contrary sort of person, hard to tie down and she's never committed herself to not having cosmetic surgery, it's a non issue, especially when the most clear extrapolations we can make from her life and cryptic lyrics seems to be that ownership, domination and violence seems to be what she stands against (or to highlight) and still does.

Surely someone like Tori deserves the upmost benefit of the doubt, that what she has done she's had done all for her own happiness, regardless of how it's perceived.

Sure, American Doll Posse was a turd, but the new one's a gleamer!

It can be expensive to look cheap.

But she's always had a strong image regardless of the expense of her taste, how do you know that the 'scruffy' black smock she had on during her carefree years was not a Vivienne Westwood?

Inconsistency is the one constant we don't like in our artists.
