They really aren't. I hate to say that because I am sure they are nice people. I was never into 3T when they came out with their album in the 90s, I thought they looked odd and sounded odder.

Jackson 5 member to speak at NAACP banquet Saturday

HOUMA — Marlon Jackson Sr., former member of the Jackson 5 and brother to the late Michael Jackson, will speak at the Terrebonne NAACP's annual banquet Saturday.

The Freedom Fund Banquet is set for 6 p.m. Saturday at the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center, 346 Civic Center Blvd., Houma.

Chapter President Jerome Boykin said 1,000 tickets have been sold for the event. This year's theme of "One Nation, One Dream" evokes Martin Luther King Jr.'s famous "I Have a Dream" speech.

"It means one dream for everyone," Boykin said. "The dream is equality for all of us."

The chapter is also giving 29 students college scholarships of $1,000 each, the most the organization has given at one time, Boykin said.

Tickets are $50 each and available for purchase through the Civic Center Box Office, open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through today. Tickets can be purchased the day of the event at the Civic Center Box Office starting at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Besides that I'm not even sure if all the information you've given me is completely true, and my statement was based solely off of what I've seenn on the Jacksons reality show, and how the brothers act/interact with each other. I love the Jacksons for their musical legacy, but other than that I'm not one to research their personal lives like you.

Jackson 5 star speaks at NAACP gathering

HOUMA — Faith in others and yourself is good, but that's not all it takes.

That's the message Marlon Jackson, a member of the musical group the Jackson 5 and brother to pop icon Michael Jackson, had for a group of young graduates Saturday night.

"Faith without action is just words," Jackson, clad in a black pinstripe suit, said in his speech during the Terrebonne NAACP's 28th Annual Freedom Fund Banquet. Whatever your dream is, "you must put your time into it."

Hundreds gathered at the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center to celebrate the achievements of 29 recent high-school graduates honored by the NAACP's scholarship process. Each received a $1,000 award from the NAACP and other community groups.

Marlon Jackson is one of the five brothers who formed the Jackson 5, the youthful singing group from Gary, Ind., that topped the charts in the 1970s with hits like "I Want You Back" and "ABC."

Jackson sprinkled his talk with anecdotes from his childhood in showbiz. He and his brother Michael usually had money to buy candy at school when they were kids, he said, thanks to the coins they got onstage when they did splits during singing and dancing numbers. It was hard to get home late from performing and have to go to school and learn, but it was also rewarding, he said.

Jackson said he used to wonder why he had to learn about British history in school, but that came in handy when the group got called upon to play for the queen of England.

Jackson's interest in the history of the slave trade ran much deeper, a subject he spoke about at length. In his case, his faith in God helped nurture that interest and eventually led him to a business opportunity to build up museums and tourism about the slave trade in Nigeria.

"He wants to strap those wings on you and soar," Jackson told the crowd.

A posthumous dance into the hall

SARATOGA SPRINGS -- He moonwalked only on video, but Michael Jackson danced his way Sunday into the National Museum of Dance Hall of Fame.

Fourteen months after his death at age 50, Jackson became the first dancer from the world of pop and rock 'n' roll to be inducted into the dance hall of fame in Saratoga Springs. At a ceremony attended by his brother Marlon, Jackson became the 44th dancer or choreographer enshrined in the hall. Most came from the worlds of ballet and modern dance.

As soft-spoken as his late brother, Marlon said he wished Michael could be here to accept the honor in person. Michael Jackson died in June 2009 of cardiac arrest. His personal doctor was charged with involuntary manslaughter for allegedly administering the sedatives that killed him.

"What we always did, including Michael, was try to reach out and bring happiness to people," said Marlon, who was the second youngest member of the Jackson 5 -- one year older than Michael. "That's what we tried to do, bring people together in a peaceful environment ... unite people around the world as one.

"I'm proud of him for what he accomplished in his life. That he's being recognized for his ability, his musical ability and dance ability, makes me feel good inside."

The induction ceremony was an extension of a gala the previous evening called the National Museum of Dance Tribute to Michael Jackson. Tickets were $300. They included admission to the induction, which alone cost $50.

Attendees stepped into the museum through an elegant entryway of black-and-gold drapes. They were immediately offered a glass of champagne.

They were treated to Michael Jackson videos and dance tributes, including one by the Lombard twins, Martin and Facundo, who perform in the recently released dance film "Step Up 3D." As they gyrated in the style of Jackson, fans in the audience hollered, "Michael ... Michael."

Before the ceremony, Marlon said that when he and Michael were boys, they pretended that Michael was Fred Astaire and Marlon was Gene Kelly. They emulated the masters' moves, took pieces from each, and that's how Michael built his routines, Marlon said.

Michele Riggi, president of the dance museum's board of directors, said Jackson's trailblazing style of dance and his impact on the world of dance qualified him for the hall of fame.

"The moonwalk, I mean, he was the first to do that," she said. "And all his dance moves, from his robot dances to the moonwalk to all his gyrations and song and dance together, were such a unique style.

"Along with his music and dance, he was a complete person and so worthy of being inducted."

Jackson joins such legendary figures in the hall as Isadora Duncan, Martha Graham, Jerome Robbins, Alvin Ailey, Paul Taylor, Robert Joffrey and Bob Fosse. Their plaques hang side by side in the order they were inducted. At the end, now, will hang one for the King of Pop.

Joe Jackson's lawyer claims, his client has not been treated with "dignity and worth" by the judge in the Michael Jackson probate case. Jackson's lawyer, Brian Oxman, filed papers with a California appeals court, claiming the probate judge was wrong in shutting down Joe's attempt to 86 executors John Branca and John McClain. The trial judge ruled Joe had no legal standing to object to the duo, because Joe himself was intentionally excluded by MJ as a beneficiary under the will. But Oxman claims Joe was financially dependent on his son and should therefore have a right to object to the appointment of the men who are making financial decisions for the Estate. Although Joe is alleging various misdeeds on the part of the executors -- including fraud and embezzlement, which the executors strongly deny -- the lawyer for Michael Jackson's kids claim Joe is actually harming them with all the "procedural wrangling." Margaret Lodise, the kids' lawyer, says Joe only cares about his stake in the Estate and, therefore, he's "the ultimate dog in the manger."
