I dont think that would be a good idea since lena didn't want janet to potray her after the super bowl incident and it'd be best to respect her wishes. I did read though oprah had planned on doing a movie on lena and was thinking about having Alicia Keys play her.

I'm sure she doesn't want to portray her anyway. Shes going to portray Eartha Kitt instead.

Is a lil' respect THAT hard to give?

This is what Janet had to say about Lena's loss:

The passing of Lena Horne, a remarkable woman, is truly a great loss. Her artistry, her beauty, her strength, and her drive have and will continue to inspire me. My deepest sympathies to her loved ones. Lena, I love u.

"It's just a great loss," said Janet Jackson in an interview on Monday. "She brought much joy into everyone's lives — even the younger generations, younger than myself. She was such a great talent. She opened up such doors for artists like myself."

I've said this here several times before, but no one could play Lena Horne in a movie better than Manuela (Prince's second wife). She's a darn-near twin to Ms. Horne. But I doubt a film will be made at all now. neutral

Hey, I'm all for progress but how would Mani convey,

Looking back at the age of 80, Ms. Horne said: “My identity is very clear to me now. I am a black woman. I’m free. I no longer have to be a ‘credit.’ I don’t have to be a symbol to anybody; I don’t have to be a first to anybody. I don’t have to be an imitation of a white woman that Hollywood sort of hoped I’d become. I’m me, and I’m like nobody else.”

Regardless of Manuela's specific racial background, she looks just like Ms. Horne to me. That's all I'm focusing on, lol. I prefer when actors/actresses look as identical as possible to the star he/she is portraying in bio-pics. shrug

Yeah, I'm a bit shocked at the lack of perspective from some of the online sites today. They just don't get how important she is to America's civil rights history. For a spot on perspective:

Time's Richard

Corliss said:

"Horne might have been black America's first ambassador to the rest of the country — an artist with perfect features and a sultry sweetness, who'd teach the benighted to accept the glamour and talent, the full humanity, of an oppressed minority that had so profoundly enriched the official culture. But blacks in the 1940s were still second-class citizens at best, deprived of the water fountains, bus seats, voting rights and entertainment opportunities taken for granted by whites. So Horne, as determined as she was beautiful, went ahead and fashioned one of the 20th century's most exemplary and poignant show-business careers."

Nor do they seem care either.

Obama mourns passing of Lena Horne, hails efforts to promote justice, equality

at 17:37 on May 10, 2010, EDT.
By The Associated Press

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama is mourning the passing of singer-actress Lena Horne.

In a statement Monday, Obama called Horne a most cherished entertainer who warmed hearts with her beautiful voice and dramatic on-screen performances. The president also hailed her efforts to promote justice and equality.

Horne was the first black performer to tour with an all-white band, and she refused to perform for segregated audiences while entertaining soldiers during the Second World War.

Obama said he and the first lady join all Americans in appreciating the joy Horne brought to their lives and the progress she forged for the country.

Horne died Sunday in New York at age 92.

A regal beauty who broke down barriers and stood up for what she believed in. Black entertainers, black women in particular, wouldn't be where they are today without her. RIP Lena Horne.
