My man had a massive heart attack at (coincidentally) age 43 back in 2007 which nearly killed him. He never saw it coming and neither did any of us. However, he has been for the most part fine since - exercising, eating right, following the doctor's advice to a tee. Blood pressure these days is 90/60. No reason Guru can't/won't pull through in the same type of shape.

Men are more heart disease prone than women, yet we avoid going to the doctor for yearly exams, claiming we feel fine or that the visits are a waste of time. This article motivated me to schedule an appoinment for next week.

Gang Starr's Guru Undergoes Successful Surgery

Rapper's partner DJ Premier tweets, 'Keep sending him love,' after rapper reportedly suffered heart attack.

Gang Starr MC Guru underwent successful surgery on Monday, according to DJ Premier. Premier, Guru's partner in the long-running hip-hop outfit, tweeted the news Tuesday morning (March 2), writing, "Good news: Guru surgery was successful, keep sending him love." Premier did not specify what the surgery was for or what the MC's current condition was, and spokespeople for Guru could not be reached at press time for further information on the rapper's medical condition.

Guru suffered what has been described as a massive heart attack over the weekend, and according to reports was in a coma as of Monday. Premier began offering updates on the surgery late Monday night, writing, "Guru still in surgery, keep on praying people, he will make it."

An unnamed source told AllHipHop.com that the rapper was doing "fine" and is expected to make a full recovery. "Guru is alive and recovering from his surgery. Doctors are expecting a full recovery luckily."

Hot 97's news director Miss Info reported Monday that Guru was in a New York-area hospital where he was expected to undergo surgery.

One of Guru's former collaborators, French MC Solaar, issued a statement on Monday in which he said, "Guru is struggling with a serious health issue. We, the whole 7 Grand Records family, appreciate all your love and well wishes. We continue to hold out hope that Guru will make a full recovery from this. We ask that his privacy on this matter will be respected. Again, thank you for all your support through this trying time."

Immortal Technique just drops a bunch of conspiracy theories and anti-government propaganda.

Guru has lyrics that anyone can feel. you dont have 2 lead a political protest in order to understand the messages.
You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!

That' actually the other way around. Women are more prone to it. But either way, get out and get your walk on and eat them veggies and stuff. It is no joke.

combine the stress, with the drinking, erratic sleep schedules, drugs, erratic eating schedule. A partner of mine cut all of that shit out when his doc told him he had an enlarged heart. No more alcohol, the dude eats vegetables, and gets his rest. I never thought I'd see him eat a carrot! lol

The last time I saw him his skin looked so radiant and the whites of his eyes were actually white. The "business" lifestyle kills folks. But I think that can also go for any high stress job.

I never said i didnt like some of IT's music.

I just think Guru is far more accesible than IT.

If you dont share similar views with him it can be easy to disregard his music.

Speaking via a statement, Guru told fans he is still a bit weak from the operation.

"I am doing fine and I am recovering! I'm weak though," Guru said in a statement today. "Solar is the only person who has the accurate info on my situation. Any info from anybody else is false! I appreciate your well wishes and all the love!" Guru and his family are asking for privacy as he recovers and stressed for fans to continue to send prayers, thoughts and love. (All Hip Hop)

Good news! New York has some very good surgeons, especially at Bellevue and Presbyterian Hospitals.

The American Heart Association does say that men are more prone to heart disease than women. However, it seems as if women are way more educated in heart disease (as well as every other disease) than men are. Women are constantly encouraged to take preventive steps to avoid or treat many of these diseases. Whereas, except for prostate cancer, preventative care info is rarely targeted towards men.
