I read in a more detailed story that Roger Freidman does not agree with it....so in that case it must be true! It's funny that this album has been out for a while in the US and now that it is coming out in the UK she gives this hint. It's also interesting that she whispered it to Howard Stern....but he's so vain that he says he forgot (he said he wouldn't tell his audience or Robin anyway but he says he honestly forgot and implied her answer was...complicated).

Yeah, she whispers David and Warren on the album. I think this is her way of pumping up her album sales. Space for sale...

She whispers "David" backwards, but it doesn't mean it was David Geffen. We don't know all the men in named David that she's encountered. People ASSume it's Geffen, but she's neither confirmed nor denied that either.
There's a few reasons it probably is NOT Geffen. On November 4th, 2009, while being interviewed on WNPR's 'Soundcheck', Simon revealed that she had hidden the name of the subject in a certain version of the song. The next day, the programme's crew revealed the name concealed in a back-played whisper: David. Assuming all of the clues to-date are true, this would not be David Bowie (no R); however, Bowie's real name is David Robert Jones which would make this a possibility.
Media sources, both online and print, widely reported in February 2010 that the subject was actually Simon's former boss at Elektra David Geffen. However, this would contradict Simon's statement in 2004 that the person had an A, an E, and an R in his name. On the other hand, Geffen's middle name is "Lawrence," so he does indeed have all three letters in his name. On Feb 26, 2010, KLOS morning show hosts Mark and Brian said according to a rather creepy backwards-whispered "David"—as incorporated into a re-recorded version of the 1972 hit on her latest album Never Been Gone for release in the UK March 2010—it's Simon's former Elektra boss David Geffen. Supposedly, the singer resented the record exec for the attention he lavished on Elektra/Asylum label-mate Joni Mitchell. However, Elektra and Asylum would not merge until a year after the song was released and at least two other names, including "Warren", are also hidden in the new version of the song. I still think it's about Warren Beatty.

I think over the years this question has taken a life of its own. Carly is smart to keep the rumor mills running, though honestly i don't think its bout anyONE person. The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything.

Do you have this new album....is it worth buying? It's been out in the US for a while, so why is the story getting so much attention now?

Eh, and how much has it sold with just her whispering two names? It debuted at #134 on the Billboard charts, which isn't really debuting it all.

I think she really wants a big comeback album and that just isn't happening, especially with remakes of her older hits....I mean she has a great one CD set of her hits out (along with an Anthology). On Amazon, it is outselling "Never Been Gone" but the numbers look like they are effected by the news.
