I saw Me'shell at the Largo last thursday. She peformed ALL of "Bitter," except for the instrumentals. It was great to see these amazing songs live. She was in good spirits and joked with the audience throughout the gig. After she performed, "Beautiful," she said, "too bad she turned out to be a cunt." "...literal people are scary, man literal people scare me out there trying to rid the world of its poetry while getting it wrong fundamentally down at the church of "look, it says right here, see!" - ani difranco

It's amazing how she never called out, Brian McKnight for lifting the melody.... can we say,...."Anytime". [Edited 2/22/10 17:15pm] "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

I remember the first time I heard, "Anytime", I nearly jumped out of my shoes. I was like..."Somebody's gonna get it"!! Yeah..I can hear it a bit on the bass and synths. The piano solo on "Soul Record" reminded me a little of "Sexy Dancer"s piano solo. She pretty much praised P in all those interviews back in 94. She said she loved his records as a kid. And I know I'm gonna get shot for saying this but the 1st time I heard "Lullabies" (93), I thought it was better than P's last 3 CD's at that time.

I love this live version. The background singers, the band, they were feeling it.

How do you guys rate her Bitter album? I have PBP and CW and I am interested in Bitter. Which of her other stuff does it sound like?? "Keep in mind that I'm an artist...and I'm sensitive about my shit."--E. Badu
