Kelis' New Album, "Flesh Tone " + Remix EP February 24, 2010 It’s been almost four years since singer-songwriter Kelis released her last album, 2006’s Grammy-nominated “Kelis Was Here.” Now the woman perhaps best known for that ubiquitous playground come-on, “Milkshake” (from her third studio album “Tasty,” released in 2003), finally has an answer for fans who repeatedly stopped her on the streets of New York last summer to ask if she would ever put out another album. Yes, it’s been a tumultuous last year for the hip-hop artist, with her divorce from rapper Nas and the birth of her first child. But even amid such upheaval and change, including a foray to culinary school, the singer always knew she would return to music. “Flesh Tone,” her fifth studio album, will be released this spring on Interscope Records through will.i.am Music Group and boasts a more electro-dance sound than her previous albums. But the first single, “Acapella,” is available beginning today at the iTunes Music Store. The track, which is already climbing Billboard’s Dance/Club Play Songs chart, can also be purchased at her Web site (iamkelis.com), where fans can stream it first. “I wrote it with love and life in mind,” says Kelis, who recorded the shimmering track with producer David Guetta (Black Eyed Peas) and has said it was inspired by the birth of her son, Knight. The video for “Acapella” was shot last week in Los Angeles with the director team of Rankin and Chris Cottam and will be available soon. Kelis also will kick off a promotional tour in late March, beginning with the Winter Music Conference in Miami. http://www.phillyburbs.co...pring.html [Edited 4/8/10 11:59am]

The first comment on this? I thought she was more popular here. Then again. that last album left a lot to be desired but this new single is pretty cool. Glad she is trying something different (again). Wonder why she stopped working with Neptunes as producers (I know the label fell through but maybe there was other bad blood, too). Maybe it was for the best.

I can't wait for this album to drop. I love me some Kelis. She is the closest thing to Grace Jones as far as style goes of the "newer comers" much more so than Rihanna. Kelis does not give two shits and I love her for that! I think she'll do great as a dance artist. It suits her better than r&b.

Imagewise, I can dig it. It's her voice. I always feel like I'm being cheated because the voice and the image just don't match. It's like Holly Hobby tryin to be street 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

I have all of her albums. Looking forward to the next one. "Acapella" was really good.
I always thought she was a very powerful muse to the Neptunes, but I have heard her work with others and there is always a certain level of quality and expression one can expect.

Yes, she looks like a nutcase sometimes. I would prefer that over the dull every-woman style every other singer wears to be "safe".

And I'm very excited to hear the new album. Don't know for sure if I'll like it, but the change in direction is at the very least intriguing.

Will.I.Am Calls Kelis 'Best Kept Secret'
March 2010 Black Eyed Peas producer and frontman Will.I.Am has big plans for the newest artist on his label imprint, singer Kelis. According to Will, the Grammy nominated singer is poised to become as big as the Peas themselves. "Kelis has always been a best kept secret," he said in an interview. "The cool people know Kelis. But the majority of people just know 'Milkshake.' If Kelis were fashion she would be a girl's favorite pair of shoes or a coat...high fashion." The man behind tracks for John Legend, Michael Jackson, and band member Fergie might be on to something as Kelis' latest single 'Acapella' is No. 1 on the Billboard dance/club play song charts. "I would like Kelis to show she's an international sensation," he continued. "She can be big. A lot of people think big is being on the radio or that being big is having a show in London, France and sometimes Japan. But that ain't international...that's just three countries. The Black Eyed Peas are big; the Black Eyed Peas are international. I think Kelis can be that big. As big as the Peas." Will also mentioned that unlike other musicians that have record labels he has no qualms about making his artists bigger stars than he is. "I've proven that's not me. Fergie is huge. When Fergie blew up she was bigger than me! I believe Kelis can do the same." Although Kelis has seen marginal success by way of hits like 'Milkshake,' these days her embattled relationship with soon-to-be-ex husband Nas keeps her name in the press. The former couple continues to hash out the details of their divorce, and custody agreement for their infant son. Her fifth album 'Flesh Tone' hits stores this spring. http://www.theboombox.com...pt-secret/ [Edited 4/8/10 12:02pm]

I like "Acapella" the first time I heard it, but I am surprised it's just now becoming available on Itunes. EW had it on their website a couple months back so I figured it was a single that just came and went without much notice.
To me, it sounds like the song is about the joy of sharing her life with her new baby. Kelis was bringing the crazy/edgy long before Lady GaGa et al. I hope she finds some measure of success with this new CD. "Be glad for what you had baby, what you've got..."
