Groove Theory is back together!!!!!!!!!!! From SoulSummer.com:
BREAKING NEWS EXCLUSIVELY ON SOULSUMMER.COM According to music mastermind and executive producer Jimmy “Henchmen” Rosemond, the hitmaking duo Groove Theory is back together and currently working on their reunion album. “It’s going well,” said Rosemond, whose Czar Entertainment firm also manages the likes of L.A. rapper, The Game. “They haven’t worked together in so long, and like most groups that break up, they’ve come into their own, so it’s almost like sharing that spotlight again, but it’s coming along. I’m excited.” The world was first introduced to the velvety vocals of sultry singer-songwriter Amel Larrieux and the soulful sounds of producer-musician Bryce Wilson (formerly of Mantronix) in the fall of 1995. Collectively known as Groove Theory, their self-titled debut album and its lead single, “Tell Me,” along with the earlier release that summer of D’Aneglo’s “Brown Sugar,” formed the vanguard of what would become known as the Neo-Soul movement that ushered in the likes of Maxwell, Erykah Badu, and later, Musiq Soulchild, Jill Scott, and India.Arie [Edited 2/4/10 9:27am] "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Wow, I never expected this! Can't wait to hear what they come up with... "Keep in mind that I'm an artist...and I'm sensitive about my shit."--E. Badu

I am really surprised because Amel and Bryce parted parted on less than friendly terms and from what I remember, that’s putting it mildly. I seem to remember that it was very much a Howard Hewitt-Jody Watley sitch. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

oove Theory had one big hit, yes, but their album was pretty much universally lauded and to this day is one of my faves. Check it out
From what I remember, Bryce didn’t like that Amel got so much attention from the media and the press and I think she didn’t like how he worked in the studio. Also, for some reason, I think they didn’t get together organically-like maybe they were just thrown together. There were some rumors and just from reading in between the lines, Bryce I think tried to put the moves on Amel or something like that. This was a long time ago and I remember reading about all this in Vibe, Honey and I think The Source "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Just sayin. I do like Amel Larrieux voice though. I just didn't think there was anything special about Groove Theory outside of 2 tracks on the album. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

Kool.. I really liked their first album-- IMO, it was one one of the very few bright spots of 90's R&B...always wondered why Bryce and Amel didn't continue... ... " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout

There was between them-they were never really friends, I don't think. I think they were together by producers. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

What are you talking about? Amel has never not worked. She is always touring or recording. She did some stuff with Sweetback. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Amel also is a family woman (she has two kids and a husband). So I'm sure she has to fix her schedule somewhat. Maybe this reunion is a one-time thing as it is with other acts despite the fact that the duo never took off after "Tell Me" became such a big hit. [Edited 2/4/10 12:23pm]

I saw her last when she toured a couple of years back. My point was more to the fact that its GOOD TO SEE HER WORKING, PERIOD. I didn't say she stopped. I'm glad to see her dropping something new, even if its with her old project. Its more of a praise of Amel than an interest in Groove Theory. In other words, I could care less what Bryce is up to. Amel is the only reason I ever liked Groove Theory. Clear enough? [Edited 2/4/10 12:30pm]

Amel was the voice of Groove Theory anyways. Bryce was just a producer. I don't think he sang on any of their tracks either. Bryce I only remember as being the love interest of Toni Braxton in "You're Makin' Me High".

I didn't say your point wasn't clear. My point was that Amel has worked continously. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Eversince she started out, she never dwelled on a "comfort zone"(Formulaic pattern) my sister has most of her stuff and I noticed that each released album sound different than the previous one. On a side note, I think she did a kick ass live version of theKid's Mountains

And my comment wasn't about how frequently she worked but rather its good to see her working on something new because i like her voice. You reacted to my post as if I were implying that she is out of the game when I wasn't. That's the problem with the internet. VYou can't hear vocal inflections in fonts. Anyway, its done. We are both happy for her? Yes?

This is true for most. Oddly enough i remember Bryce more as one half of the 80's hip hop group Mantronix. Don't laugh at my funk

Sad but true. Bryce wants to continue reaching for crossover pop success, while Amel wants to stay on the then-underground level neo-soul sound. And BTW, Bryce would move on to produce a few more hits for other artists (especially Toni Braxton's Making Me High).

I think each of their best work was as part of the duo Groove Theory. They got that synergy. Obviously I enjoy a bit of that later Mantronix, but not as much as that Groove Theory album.
