Georgio - Sex Appeal! Anyone remember this dude from the late 80's? I guess he was supposed to be sort of like the Purple One. I just got his album Sex Appeal featuring Tina Cherry. I like the album. It's pretty tight. It has a dance pop/r&b/new wave feel to it. Wonder where he is now? Why didn't he take off? | |

Georgio Allentinini is an African American funk and dance music singer/songwriter/keyboardist/guitarist from San Francisco California. He goes by the stage name Georgio. In 1987 he had several songs chart on the Hot 100, although none climbed any higher than #58. He was much more successful on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart, where he earned four Top 10 hits, including "Tina Cherry," which hit #1.
Recently, Georgio has made the transition to filmmaker with the 2003 release "Tapped Out", which also starred Coolio, Alex Avant, and Jimmy Bridges. Yes, I was just listening to him on my I-pod. I actually thought he was a pretty good singer. From what I understand, part of the reason why he didn't make it was because he had a really stank attitude and he ended up stepping on a lot of toes and ended up screwing himself out of a successful singing career. I think i play sexappeal once a week for months now, i just love that song. I used to have his cd, but i lost it, so now i only have some tracks of it downloaded. Wish they were in better quality. Where did you get the album? [Edited 1/21/10 22:59pm] | |

Did you guys know that Georgio almost became a Prince protege? In a 1987 Black Beat magazine interview,he mentioned that his demo tape made it's way to Prince in 1985.Prince wanted to sign him to Paisley Park Records but according to Gerogio,Prince and BrownMark were planning to "take over" his album,writing and producing all the tracks,even though Georgio had already written and recorded a bunch of songs on his own.Georgio was furious and didn't sign a deal.

This was a great album. He later did another album with a song called "Rollin" that was horrible. It sounded new jack.  Andy is a four letter word. | |
