You definiley need some rain interludes thrown in after every track for good measure. That's where I used to love making cd's. make sure the rain crossfades into every track..throw some car passing by sounds every now and again with the downpour... nod

How would I go about crossfading the rain effects onto the tracks?

Oooh, well i used this program called Creative Wave Studio. I make music so it's easy to me, however for the casual cd maker it can be just a bit complex. Ernest how did you go about making yours?

That's what I did with my Fuck 101, and Fuck 102 CDs. I actually slowly segued rain from the middle section of "That's The Way Love Goes" to the end. It was so gradual, you almost didn't notice it until the song ends, and there's rain happening. DAMN I love those CDs! I need to rerip them.

tracklist?

tracklist?

The first one:

Enigma - Sadness Pt 1
Madonna - Crazy For You
Janet Jackson - That's The Way Love Goes
(rain segue)
Prince - Gamillah
Prince - Ripopgodazippa
Prince - Come (edited)
Madonna - Inside of Me
TLC - Red Light Special
prince - One Kiss At A Time
Sheila E. - Hold Me
(rain segue)
Prince - God (Instrumental - edited)
(rain segue)
Prince - Shhh
Madonna - Justify My Love
Janet Jackson - Rope Burn
Madonna - Erotica

This also had into and out of songs. I think I kept rain throughout "God" and started "Shhh!" at a very low volume and slowly brought it up. It wasn't just a mix CD. There really was an ebb and flow to it, with a lot of long crossfaes. I worked on it for a couple of weeks before I felt it was complete. I think one of the rain segues is a big storm I recorded her in Albany. It was about 15 minutes of an intense thunderstorm. I just pivoted my microphone stand around to the open window and hit record on my computer, and recorded the whole thing. I still have that file, and I mixed part of it in with the other rain noises I put on the CD.

I haven't found the tracklist to the 2nd one. It's been ages since I did these CDs.

I played Fuck 101 on my radio show. I don't even think I talked through it, I just let it play for the last 80 minutes of the show. At the end of "Erotica" I meshed rain sounds with the ending of the janet. album with the strings and the tracks "You still up?" segue. It's the "after glow" part of the CD. Notice the songs go from slower, and have a gradual build in feel and mood, until it ends with a big climax.

Well the other album was more like:

New song
Old Song (but unavailable on any previous artist's album)
Old Song
New Song
Old Song
Old Song (but unavailable on any previous artist's album)
Old Song
Old Song
Old Song (Remixed)
Old Song
Old Song
New Song
Old Song
Old Song
New Song (First one - different version)
Japanese Bonus Track
Old Song
Latin America Bonus Track
Old Song (Track 4 in Spanish)

So for Janet.....hmmm. And let's not forget, Something To Remember was a filler type album, something to appease the fans (and make a few quick bucks as it sold 8 million world wide) while EVITA was being made. A Janet ballad album would be nice, and throw in a few new songs too. Following the formula above as outlined by Madge's album, mine would be:

New song
Together Again (Deeper Mix) (but unavailable on any previous artist's album)
Would U Mind
New Song
Lonely
I Know The Truth (but unavailable on any previous artist's album)
Any Time, Any Place
Let's Wait Awhile
The Velvet Rope (Remixed) (A more acoustic take on the song, like Prince did with "7" or "Space")
That's The Way Love Goes
I Get Lonely
New Song
Rope Burn
Funny How Time Flies
New Song (First one - different version)
Japanese Bonus Track
China Love (HA!)
Latin America Bonus Track
Vuelve a Mi

Can I get a copy of that thunderstorm file?

There must be something in the air right now, cuz I've been listening to Janet ballads for the past couple months. Trying to put together a 2 disc set - one of the more quiet storm-ish/baby-making songs, and one of the songs about heartbreak and loneliness. It's coming together fine, but there are some edits and remixes I'm having a hard time tracking down.

Musicslave

Nothing really new to add. "Take Care" and "Enjoy" were modern day classics from jan/jam/lewis.

Thanks to this posting, I've been hypnotized all afternoon. The melody in "Take Care" is so tranquil. One of their best sensuous grooves, of any era. Speaking of which. After hearing these gems again, I question anyone's sanity that doubts whether or not Janet/Jam/Lewis and the Flyte Tyme camp can produce a hit today.

But back to the jam. I've always loved Jimmy Jam's bubbling moog bass underneath these kind of tracks. He plays it with a touch of jazz, toward the end of "Take Care." Her harmonies are always flawless. Overall, the thing I like about this song the most is the vamp, it just gets me everytime! "ah ah take care of me" The mood the music captures is just perfection. Sounds like its about to go down. Thanks for including the lyrics too. You know sometimes we gotta have that Janetranslation.

Makes me look forward to the new stuff!
