Lil Wayne Books Last Tour Dates Before Incarceration

December 30, 2009

Lil Wayne has embarked on a final slate of live performances before he enters prison to begin serving what is expected to be a one-year sentence on weapons charges.

The 27-year-old rapper, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, kicked off his "farewell" slate Monday night (12/28) with a hometown show in New Orleans. The pre-incarceration tour continues with a New Year's Eve performance in San Diego, then hits seven cities in January before Carter enters prison to begin serving his sentence.

Carter pleaded guilty in October to a weapons possession charge stemming from a 2007 traffic stop in New York, when authorities entered the rapper's tour bus after smelling marijuana, they said, and Carter reportedly kicked aside a bag containing a loaded handgun. The performer will be sentenced Feb. 9, and his plea bargain calls for a year in jail.

Carter also faces felony drug possession and weapons charges in a separate case pending in Yuma, AZ, and more recently, the rapper and 11 others were detained at a Texas border checkpoint after an unknown amount of marijuana was found on one of his two tour buses. No charges were brought against Carter in the Texas case.

"Rebirth," the rapper's forthcoming seventh studio album, will hit store shelves sometime in the first quarter of 2010, according to Carter's label. The oft-delayed released follows 2008's "Tha Carter III," which scored Best Rap Album at this year's Grammy Awards ceremonies.

Five singles from "Rebirth" have already been released, including "Drop the World," which hit radio airwaves earlier this month.

December 2010
31 - San Diego, CA - San Diego Arena

6 - Austin, TX - Travis County Expo

Wow, those are some high-profile gigs. I guess he's too big for New York, LA and Philly.
