your FIRST cdR mixtape you made? your LATEST?

First was in around 2002. Just discovered a computer i had for 2.5 years could burn blank cds. ( remember how expensive blank cds were then?) my sister was a rapper around that time so she had some black cd covers so i went through all the trouble "designing" a cover. it had a mixture of michael jackson/jacksons/ janet jackson songs and maybe 1 or 2 madonna songs ( eek ) quite random but i felt cool doing it.
later went on to downloading and burning "bootleg mix cds" to my friends at school mad

my latest was two days ago. put a few more christmas songs on to get out of my system before new years ( santa baby-both eartha kitt and madonna, sleigh ride -alexander o'neal) some beatles remixes, a couple of songs from jay-z's latest cd, beats to the rhyme-run dmc, etc)

i have the MOST random song choices so its very hard to allow others to listen to my mix cds. eek eek eek

I'm sure the very first
one I burned myself was
a mixture of either Foxy Brown stuff
or Mary J. Blige stuff.. one of those two LOL

I made a recent one during the holidays
with half of it Christmasy
and the other half was unheard shit like
Lisa Banton & dwayne. & Da Bad Seed, Cassette, etc.

I made one called MeisterMix, because I used MixMeister to do it.

I made a couple more later on. I also made one of Madonna remixes, and one of the remixes from disk 1 of Mariah's Remix album.

I have made give Gym Tyme mixes, geared specifically for gym workouts.

In between all that, I've made two "Fuck 101" CDs. They're certain slow songs, gradually building over the course of the disk to a climatic ending, interspersed with nature sounds (like rain). They're called Fuck 101, and Fuck 102. I still listen to them. Always thought they'd make a great set for a compilation. They're meant to make love to, over the course of 80 minutes.

Overall, I've made about 10 or 12 mix CDs, but the last one I made was 2007 or 2008 probably.

Made one for a friend in 2001 called "Remember December", with a personalized self-designed cover and the whole-9. But honestly, I don't think I've made one since. It included 13 tracks:

    01. "I Am The Body Beautiful" - Salt-n-Pepa
    02. "All Around The World" - Lisa Stansfield
    03. "Don't Make Me Over" - Sybil
    04. "Hey Good Lookin'" - George Clinton
    05. "If It Don't Turn You On" - B.T. Express
    06. "You Are My Friend" - Sylvester
    07. "You've Got A Friend" - Carole King
    08. "Deja Vu (I've Been Here Before)" - Teena Marie
    09. "Memories" - The Temptations
    10. "Happy Feelings" - Maze (featuring Frankie Beverly)
    11. "Blues In The Night" - Ella Fitzgerald
    12. "Ill Wind" - Ethel Waters
    13. "He Lives In You" - The Lion King Original Cast

Wow, this was 8 years ago this month! Good thing I made a copy for myself as well, I'm putting this bad-boy on right now!

The first CD-R used for the mix CD purpose was from ten years ago. It was also one of the last mixtapes (like, on cassette) that I did called New Wave & 80s Faves, which fit on one of those Sony CDit length blank tapes, or one CD-R. The tracklist was compiled with my oldest sister, and the cover had a Rubik's cube on it lol EDIT: hmmm Now that I think about this, I believe the CD-R was actually revised from a longer 90 minute cassette mix because I remember Kraftwerk "Computerlove" being on it, which her boyfriend (now husband) inquired about.

01. LUST FOR LIFE // Iggy Pop
02. BLUE JEAN // David Bowie
03. DA DA DA // Trio
04. GENIUS OF LOVE // Tom Tom Club
05. POP MUZIK // M
06. ELECTRIC AVENUE // Eddy Grant
07. LET'S GO ALL THE WAY // Sly Fox
08. ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK // Murray Head
09. I WANT CANDY // Bow Wow Wow
10. TENDERNESS // General Public
11. I KNOW WHAT BOYS LIKE // The Waitresses
12. KIDS OF AMERICA // Kim Wilde
13. PUTTIN' ON THE RITZ // Taco
14. VIDEO KILLED THE RADIO STAR // Buggles
15. WE GOT THE BEAT // Go-Go's
16. TOO SHY // Kajagoogoo
17. VOICES CARRY // 'Til Tuesday
18. THE SAFETY DANCE // Men Without Hats
19. OUR HOUSE // Madness

My latest compilation is the one Harlepolis was referring to, and I guess you could say it fits on a CD-R but actually I made it as an MP3 Playlist with each song having corresponding cover art for the iPod (or whatever media player).

01// The Russian Futurists "Sentiments Vs. Syllables"
02// Petey Pablo "Raise Up"
03// Willie Hutch "Tell Me Why Has Our Love Turned Cold"
04// Bobby Womack "How Could You Break My Heart"
05// Madvillain "Fancy Clown (Instrumental)"
06// The White Noise "Love Without Sound"
07// Jack Jones "I Keep Leavin' Houses Behind"
08// Dottie West "A Lesson In Leavin'"
09// Terry Baxter Orchestra "Walk On By"
10// Tom Scott "Never My Love"
11// The Moments "Girls"
12// Mayer Hawthorne "A Strange Arrangement"
13// Don Blackman "Since You Been Away So Long"
14// The Miracles "I Don't Need No Reason"
15// Eddie Kendricks "Intimate Friends"

I couldn't be happier that Harlepolis made an amazing answer mix to this.

The first one....I honestly wouldn't remember because I've been making them since the old days of putting a tape recorder next to a stereo speaker and telling everyone else in the house...."Shhhhh". I used to have a few of them with my grandmother in background hollering...."Turn that bumpitty bump shit down!". lol

The last one I made was for a friend who is into more bluesy type songs. Some of the songs I remember putting on it were....

If Loving You Is Wrong (I Don't Want To Be Right) - Millie Jackson
I'll Be The Other Woman - The Soul Children
Woman To Woman - Shirley Brown
Tonight Is The Night - Betty Wright
Trapped By A Thing Called Love (1979 Live Version) - Denise LaSalle
Down Home Blues - ZZ Hill/Denise LaSalle (A version I made blending their two vocals together like a duet)
It Ain't No Use - ZZ Hill
Sue - Bobby Rush
Taxi - J Blackfoot
Tell My What's Happening Baby - The Soul Children (A version I recorded off the radio with local DJ Lady V answering J Blackfoot in the intro)
Be For Real - Harold Melvin and The Bluenotes
Andy is a four letter word.
