Together and Apart Tour - Eric Clapton & Jeff Beck

Guitar gods Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck will tour together for the first time as co-headliners, playing seperate sets, and then coming together for a long set at the end according to their handlers.
The two who are forever connected in rock music history because both were once members of The Yardbirds, famed Sixties British group. Clapton left in 1965, and was replaced by Beck, who was recommended by his pal Jimmy Page. Clapton went on to join John Mayall and The Bluesbreakers, while became famous for his guitar antics in The Yardbirds. Just before being kicked out of the band, Beck was joined for a few monhs in 1966 by his old pal Jimmy Page in The Yardbirds and the two played dual lead guitar. Page ultimately turned The Yardbirds into The New Yardbirds and finally in 1968 into Led Zeppelin. Clapton formed Cream and Beck enlisted Rod Stewart to sing and Ron Wood to play bass and formed The Jeff Beck Group.
As time would go on, both guitar players took very different paths, Clapton enjoying success with Blind Faith, Delaney & Bonnie and Friends, and Derek and The Dominoes, plus a superstar laden solo career. Working with everyone from Aretha Franklin to George Harrison to B.B. King to Babyface and many more. He is the only three time member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (with The Yardbirds, Cream and as a solo act). He also has several Grammys.
Beck has remained the most reclusive and less famed of the three guitar slingers from The Yardbirds, as he has preferred staying in country side 80 acre 15th century estate 40 miles south of London tinkering with his massive car collection. When he comes out to play, he has added guitar work to a wide range of group, solo and special guest projects that range from Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner, Paul Rodgers, Diana Ross, Stanley Clarke, The Honeydrippers and Sting to name a few. He is most known for his 1975 masterpiece all-instrumental album BLOW BY BLOW. It was his debut in a setting with funk, jazz leanings and made him widely known in the fusion world. He too has several Grammys for his guitar work. He is one of the few celebs that owe his fame to being an instrumentalist only, as Beck is not a very good vocalist.

So far the menu of dates is slect, but they include:
February 13...O2 Arena, London
February 14...02 Arena, London
February 18...Madison Square Gardens, NYC
February 19...Madison Square Gardens, NYC
February 21...Air Canada Centre, Toronto, Canada
February 22...Bell Centre, Montreal, QC

On June 26, 2010, sources say that Eric Clapton is once again sponsoring his Crossroads Festival, and Chicago is the city of choice again. The first one was held in Dallas in 2004, with Chicago being host in 2007. These same sources say that Beck will be a part of that as well. After dates with Clapton on their joint tour, Beck heads to Australia and Japan for a solo tour, and then back to the USA for solo dates in June.

They did a looser version of this gigging arrangement earlier this year in Japan...

Very cool. Thanks for the news. I sure hope they hit the West coast. I saw Beck in April and Clapton with Winwood in June. They both are still amazing players and it would be a treat to see them together. It seems like Clapton always takes his guitar playing to another level when playing with another great guitarist. Now they just need Jimmy Page to join the tour.

The Jeff Beck Performing This Week Live At Ronnie Scott's DVD has Clapton come out as a guest and they play "Little Brown Bird" and "You Need Love." It is pretty cool to see Robert Plant and Jimmy Page in the audience.
