That is true sometimes. nod But the best vocalists I've ever seen do not make faces like some type of theatrical comedy skit like Chrisette Michele. I saw her doing that on "The Brian McKnight Show," and immediately turned the channel. lol In her case, all of that is unnecessary.

Well, I guess some folks aren't used to real soul music. Chrisette Michelle has a beautiful voice.

If you want to talk about making faces, I think Mick Jagger made the ugliest... since he is, so it wasn't that hard for him.

No not a pitchfork, just giving our opinions, such as you are. Point is, some of us either liked portions of the show or not at all, however, I saw no coonery or minstrel sh*t, just some light humor. Timmy, remember..it's okay for Black folks to laugh sometimes...'kay?biggrin

Anyhooooo....I thought the Soul Train Awards was pretty okay. Raheem and Chrisette were my favorite. Adios!
[Edited 11/29/09 20:28pm]

OK I'll admit maybe I pushed it calling it coonery and I apologize. biggrin But I still think they could've done the show better than they did. shrug Ginuwine wasn't giving me what I needed either. smh

Dude don't apologize.Your opinion is your opinion.Everyone else states
theirs right.I have yet to watch it but i've recorded and will watch
tomorrow because i was watching the Steelers-Ravens football game.
As for Ginuwine please rolleyes I'd rather watch paint dry.
At least i know to skip over his performance. lol

No need in apologizing Timmy, just glad that you gave it a 2nd and honest chance by attempting to watch the whole thing before giving an honest opinion. I agree with the Ginuwine comment...he's so over. Didn't they already know he has a history of fucking up other people's songs already? They should have had Johnny Gill doing it instead of him. I mean anytime you can scoop up K-Ci & JoJo????? Surely they could have asked Johnny to do it as well.

I saw bits and pieces of the Soul Train Awards as I was flipping through the channels looking for something good on (in which I had no luck). The only reason I even watched any of it, is because I knew the network has been playing the old episodes and I hoped maybe they would be showing some old clips in order to get some plugs in for the show. And I also wanted to see if Charlie Wilson was going to perform some Gap Band stuff or was he only going to be a sellout. Just as I thought, he was a sellout and when he did perform Gap Band songs, he let them be ruined by the presence of new "artists" on the stage with him and dancers which made it look like a corny Broadway musical.

From the parts I saw, the show was totally rediculous. I kept seeing people praising "Soul Train" that weren't even born during the show's heyday. That's fine and I understand that people can't help how young they may be. However, I'm willing to bet that 90% of them have not watched one single episode of "Soul Train" in it's entirety since Centric has been airing it or when WGN was airing the old episodes a few years ago. All I saw was a bunch of fake people who simply wanted to be on TV or an awards show in general, any awards show. It definately showed their fakeness when they would mention the bellbottoms and afros. Hell, the show was on for 30 years but their only knowledge of it is a few 1970s clips that have been showed over the years whenever the show's name comes up.

It's also rediculous to even had the awards show in the first place since the show doesn't even make new episodes (thank God). A tribute show would have been more appropriate. Why would a show give out awards for popular music in general? That's rediculous, that's what the Grammy's and AMA's are for. If it was going to be an awards show at all, they should have given out awards that apply to "Soul Train" itself which would make more sense since it's called the "Soul Train Music Awards". Hell, give out awards for songs that were popular with Soul Train's audience back then or for songs that were popular with the dancers. Give out awards to favorite dancers, most stylish dancers, wildest dancers, most comical dancer, etc. What I saw last night had absolutely nothing to do with Soul Train whatsoever and everything to do with having an excuse to promote more bullshit music from current so-called "artists".

Agree. And Jody tweeted something similar about how the original dancers should have been honored. I'd be down to watch a modern-day Soul Train -- a West Coast show to rival 106... lord knows we have enough So You Think You Can Dance rejects out here to fill the studio.
