Susan Boyle's "I Dreamed A Dream" album

I don't know if I bought into the hype or it's that intense cover of "Wild Horses" (the title song is good too), but I bought the album. Not my kind of music (and I'm not entirely sure that it is that well produced) but I'm digging her covers as well as some very non-secular material. Anyone else buy it? Please don't post if you're going to just say "She's a freak show and that's why stupid people like VinnyM27 are buying this album". Thanks.

After listening to it all the way through, it could be a lot stronger! They might have rushed it. "Wild Horses" is easily the strongest song. And adding "Silent Night" is a bit perplexing!

I cant take her, i heard her sing, and dont get me wrong great voice, but I mean Andrea Boccelli blows her away and no one is slapping his story all over the news.

Because it's not unusual for a non-hot guy to become famous. Can you think of another 49 yr old who looks like Susan who is as successful as she is?

I wasn't paying any attention to her, assumed it was some stupid reality-show BS.

And then I saw her perform Wild Horses on one of those morning show, and was pretty blown away. It's not just that she's got amazing pipes, she seems to be a pretty decent interpreter of songs (at least that one). Don't know if I can bring myself to buy an album, but I now completely get what the fuss is about.

It's not actually her fault that there's such a media frenzy. I think it just shows how shallow the music industry is (and we all are), because if you're not 'hot' or 'the package' you're not supposed to be successful, and yet her voice and talent has won through, what a shocker!! I feel sorry for her though, I don't think she's probably equipped to deal with it all, and it would be in her favour for things to calm down. I didn't get what all the fuss was about in the beginning, but in 'Wild Horses' she sings like an Angel. I just wish they'd give her some space, to enjoy her success in a little peace, we all know she's 'different' and the media should respect that to a degree, and let her have her dignity.

According to new figures released by Soundscan, her debut sold an incredible 701,000 copies in its first week. The question is: does the album have staying power and does she have longevity as an artist?

Cha know, I'm going to give her credit because she has been going after this dream of hers her whole life...she's tried to record, she's taken lessons...she's lived a life...while she got noticed by a tv reality talent show she is actually nothing like the majority of AI/X-Factor/Whatever wannabies (cough cough adam lambert) out there.

That's interesting because these are the people that don't download...i wonder if this is going to change where the attention is paid within the labels.

Well, are 60 year olds second class citizens or something? lol They were the ones who were in their teens and twenties during the 60's and 70's (if I've got my maths right), when music was really good and original... just saying wink Whoever it does or doesn't appeal to, she has a beautiful voice, and talent always wins out in the end! biggrin Oh, and I'm definitely not 60, haven't bought the album, but am really blown away by 'Wild Horses', it has a slight 'celtic' vibe to it too, which I really like!

What makes you think that if they couldn't understand that simple economic fact for the past few decades, they're suddenly going to wake up? smile

I say good for her for upsetting the apple cart.

I'm pleased she's reaping the fruits of her talent. Because God knows she's unlikely to garner significant chart success in the distant future.
