Adrian Young - Black Dynamite Soundtrack

Not sure if this was already a thread but if you are a fan of 70's soul then you need to check out Adrian Young's Black Dynamite Soundtrack issued on Wax Poets, they use all analog twin tracks and early vintage 70's gear to recreate that 70's blaxploitation soundtrack feel and Adrian really get's it right. Sounds a lot like Willie Hutch soundtrack for The Mack, this really sounds like a lost gem from the 70's

I'm gonna get you sucka paid homage to the blaxploitation films of the 70's more so than Hollywood shuffle, Black Dynamite seems like a full blown tribute to the black films of the 70's taking it a step further with it's homage than either of those earlier two films, from what I have read about it.

I saw it the weekend it came out in limited release. I really enjoyed it. I'm a big fan of Blaxploitation, so I GOT it. I can see how some people would go thinking they're going to see another "Sucka" and be disappointed.
They covered every element of the genre. There is one pose with him and two women in the movie that is the EXACT pose "Black Shampoo". fro

I'll probably pick up this soundtrack. I liked what I heard... nod

I just saw this film last week and laughed my ass off!!! And yeah great soundtrack!!!!

I think that's the strong suit of the film--everything is played straight, no matter how hilarious it gets--it plays as if it's an actual bad blaxploitation film from the 70's, rather than an obvious spoof--it's more of an homage. And the music just shows the kind of care that went into re-creating the feel of the time...

I'm a big fan of the blaxploitation genre also, I got Candy Tangerine Man and Black Shampoo too. I'm tryin' to get them all, some are easier to find then others as I'm sure you know. I just added the three Fred W illiamson cowboy flicks, The Legend Of Nigger Charley, The Soul Of Nigger Charley, and Boss Nigger to my collection a few days ago, classic stuff!!

Black Dynamite is a welcome tribute to this genre, I can't wait to see it and get it on when it comes on DVD.

I don't have those three yet (not really into cowboy movies without Clint Eastwood boxed), but I love Fred Williamson. My collection is still growing...
I will definitely add "Black Dynamite" to it. nod

Mr.Fred Williamson is NOT impressed by 'Black Dynamite' lol

The Hammer is not amused
By Sergio, on October 14th, 2009
Well there’s at least one person who’s not happy with Black Dynamite and that’s the great Fred “The Hammer” Williamson (the guy I wanted to be when I didn’t want to be Jim Brown) who finds very little to laugh about regarding the film. According to a recent interview in the L.A. Times, Williamson finds very little to laugh about in the film. Though it seems he more upset a possible deal to appear in the film didn’t come through. However, he has nothing but praise for Robert Downey’s Jr. blackface role in last year’s Tropic Thunder. Go figure. For more read for yourself….

Although he declared his “love for the period,” the film’s star, Michael Jai White, opted to use humor as a vehicle for showcasing a time in which films told universal stories via black actors and filmmakers. For White, “Black Dynamite” served as a “tip of the hat to that era.”

“It’s funny to do it as a time capsule and lay in some jokes that are only funny when you’re looking at them now,” the actor told the LA Times. “You look at the ’70s, is there a more entertaining time? That time period was so alive. It was a great time for black people — they went from their heads being bowed to being up and strong.”

However, White’s approach did not earn high marks with Williamson, who is proud of the way his characters come across on the big screen. According to him, “Black Dynamite’s” attempt to honor his onscreen image fell flat.

“He says that they’re payin’ homage to me. How can you pay homage to me in a comedy. I don’t do comedy. How you gonna pay homage to me?,” said Williamson. “…My thing is to be the hero, to win the fight, to get the girl at the end of the movie and don’t die. OK. You go to see a Freddy Williamson movie. Ain’t no singin’, ain’t no dancin’ because I don’t sing. I don’t dance, in public anyway. So my kind of film, call it what you want. I have no idea what the hell ‘black exploitation’ means, but if you want to call it that, fine. But I don’t do comedy and you can’t pay homage to me by doing comedy.”

While he has no problem with White’s performance, Williamson expressed his displeasure over Screen Gem’s “ploy to get me involved so they can make more money” from the film.

“It has nothing to do with anything except getting people thinking that it’s the kind of film that Freddy Williamson would do and would like and so the public would come out. You know, you can’t use me dog. No way,” the veteran actor shared. “I don’t appreciate what the studio is trying to do. I respect Michael Jai White because it’s a job. He’s working. He’s making money. I respect that. I don’t respect Screen Gems trying to bill this as a resurrection of black stars coming back and doing the kind of films that they want because I guarantee you, Michael White is doing this film, but it’s not what he wants to do.”

“He’s a big good looking guy, a martial arts guy. He don’t wanna be doing funny. He wants to be out there kickin’ people’s ass and being the hero like everybody else. He don’t wanna do comedy,” Williamson continued. “I mean the guy worked all those many years to be a martial arts expert. He’s a good looking guy. He’s done mostly action films. He succumbs to a comedy because that’s all that’s left for him.”

An action star with roles in “Three the Hard Way,” “Original Gangsters,” “Black Caesar” and “Hell Up in Harlem,” Williamson is considered an icon among fans of black cinema. But while Black Dynamite may have missed the mark as far as he’s concerned, the actor applauded Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of a black method actor in the hit film “Tropic Thunder.”

“The guy who paid homage to me was a white guy in ‘Tropic Thunder.’ Did you see that film? … Robert Downey Jr. He did it in blackface with sideburns, looked just like The Hammer. When they reviewed the film in New York and all other venues they said he did a great interpretation of Fred Williamson. Now, I respect that. That means he knows who I am. He saw me. He respects the way that I talk. He respects the way that I project myself and that’s what he was doing. He was in a comedy, but he wasn’t comic. He was doing The Hammer.”

I joined the "Black Dynamite" website. I received this email a little while ago:

"Dear Black Dynamite fans:

I can tell by watching the activity on the Internet that people around the world are eager to see Black Dynamite.

It is our fans who have helped us get the word out thus far, and we greatly appreciate the love and support they have shown us.

As I am sure you know, an early cut of the movie has leaked on the Internet, and seems to be quite popular. Last I checked, the comments on Twitter and Facebook have been only positive. I love that the buzz on the web is so good, and that we have so many new fans. But I would like to stress that the version of the film online is NOT the final cut.

The final cut of Black Dynamite, which is currently in theaters, is the way director Scott Sanders and I envisioned the movie. It is the film we are proud of, and the one we want to share with audiences worldwide.

Believe me, if you or people you know like the rough cut of Black Dynamite you saw online, you will love the final cut of the film that is in theaters now. For a current list of showtimes and theaters, check out The Official Black Dynamite website (http://www.blackdynamitemovie.com/movie_listing)

If you love the version you saw online, then support the film and buy a t-shirt (http://www.blackdynamitemovie.com/store-main).

My sincere thanks.

Best regards,

Michael Jai White (Black Dynamite)"

One thing about "Jackie Brown" is that it was a Tarantino film.... don't get me wrong, I like him, but his stamp on something makes it distinctly his style.

I loved "Pulp Fiction" so much, I saw it the day it came out... I figured Pam Grier and Tarantino- how can I go wrong? I was kind of let down... I'm still not sure why.
I saw the DVD in the supermarket dirt cheap recently and passed on it. I might pick it up when I go back and give it another look. nod

LOOOOOVE me some Madame Paula Kelly love I wish she got more leading roles,,,,,she was a triple threat in her heyday; dancing, singing and acting her pretty tail off.

(All of Sidney Poitier's trilogy).

Not a blaxpoitation movie, but a FAVE never the less from the era...

The 70s gave the MOST honest sincere movies, IMO.

I was shocked too, I bet she's a real sweetheart in real life. Even though Issac Hayes was the star, I think she stole the movie with all her classic lines like "This aint Sears & Roebuck, N*ggah" lol
