Soul Train 11/6/9-Ike and Tina

Wonder if Ike did a Chris Brown on Tina before or after the show

Even though I'm getting tired of their pattern of showing only huge "legends" or "icons", I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. Ike and Tina performed my two favorite songs by them "Sexy Ida" and "Nutbush City Limits". The songs for the dancers were great too. Good to see they were on into the mid 1970s when more queens started dancing on the show. It just ain't "Soul Train" without the hollering queens. lol

I kept looking at Ike throughout the show and saying to myself "you motherfucker". lol This would have been around the time when his abuse was the worst. In the movie, when they were rehearsing "Nutbush City Limits", that's when he raped her in their home studio.

That scene is one of the reasons why I have not watched that movie since it came out....She has denied it and so has he, but, why would anyone admit to doing it or having it done to them?

I still don't believe Ike raped her, he did a lot of dumb things to Tina but that? I just don't believe it, not saying it's better but it's ridiculous to assume anything because of that scene.

Right. Tina did say that some things that never actually happened (including the rape) were written especially for the movie to spice it up.

Yeah and why would Tina even lie? lol Her book was graphic but it wasn't as monstrous as they made Ike in the film.

Honestly, how many women in the USA & UK were already convince that Ike was a "monster" BEFORE the movie debuted in both countries?!?

I don't think it was so much about feeling sorry for Tina the victim as much as it was really about how evil Ike was back in the days (from the point of view of Hollywood no less).

False. The rape never happened. Even Tina admitted some
parts of the movie was a little exaggerated. The abuse
happened but not the rape.

You might have a point, Timmy. I guess, since he was all ready a wife beater, I automatically wanted to pin that on him as well.

Well damn, you learn something new every day. lol

In that case, it was rediculous for them to add fictional scenes when there was plenty of dirt already to keep the movie interesting. So Ike didn't pull a gun backstage at The Ritz, did he even go to The Ritz at all? And did he hire a hitman like his son said toward the end of the movie?

I did not say she said she was raped in the book. Try reading before you go off. In the book Ike beats her and then has sex with her many times. Now maybe that does not meet the legal definition of rape but damm it sure is fucking evil.

Please stop making excuses for Ike he was an asshole and his abuse of Tina comes up in the Little Richard autobiography and Etta James talks about it in her autobiography.

It was well known in the music industry that he was beating the crap out of her before that movie came out.

I thought it was common knowledge that Ike Turner was an asshole. lol No one's this close to "defending" him. Only Phil Spector can defend him and, uh, well you know lol...

No, he stopped stalking her after the divorce was finalized,,,,also, he was jailed at the time, so you know the encounter wouldn't take place lol And nah, no hitman either lol...

Another thing, there was NO Jackie lol the woman who introduced Tina to Buddhism was a Swedish woman(she was the same person who took Tina in when the divorce court took ALL of her savings).

Oh wait, there WAS an encounter between them right after the divorce(according to the book),,,,it would've been more intersting had they included it as a scene. As she said it, Tina got outside of the Swedish woman's house with a shotgun ready to blast Ike's forehead(he was there with his gang of friends after he finally found her) she told the woman to call 911 and waited till the police came in and told them "I'm Tina Turner, thats my ex-husband and I need you to take him away before I go to jail for killing him" lol Now WHY in the hell didn't they include that, is beyond me.
