People been lip-syncing for YEARS. This is why I don't understand the big deal. Even great singers lip-sync (Soul Train, American Bandstand, Top of the Pops anyone?). Some don't choose to, some do, and some others because they're more talented in an all-around way will choose it. Now all of a sudden Britney is supposed to be blamed for it? GTFOOH.

Lip-synching has NOTHING to do with music, but with the entertainment business.

The fact that many people here seem to take it for granted that Michael and Janet, among many others since then, are / have been lypsynching, show they take the surface (the 'showbizness', the dance movements, the fireworks, the 'big' choreography) over real talents.

Why not go to Disneyland or watch some moronic Hollywood blockbuster if you are that easily impressed?

Real musical talent goes deeper then that.

Yeah, MJ never sung live or anything in between the lip syncing. No talent at all, right? pfffft,

Why can't you get over the fact people enjoyed someone who was in the business for over 40 years and was a composer, producer, singer, dancer, etc? Yeah, he lip-synced a lot, if that was his only claim to fame I'd get your point, but clearly he had a plethora of talent that people enjoyed and respected. Get over it.

^ MJ lip synced more during the Dangerous and especially during the HIStory tour. In fact, one of the circulating videos of the HIStory world tour he lip synced about 90% of the songs. I was really disappointed when I downloaded it to watch. He did lip sync "Thriller" on the Dangerous Tour. However, there was an MJ switch during the show, so he couldn't really sing. At the point where MJ disappears and then puts on the werewolf masks, that's a dancer after that point, not MJ. He goes to change and get on a lift for the next song (which I think is either Billie Jean or Beat It). He also lip syncs, quite obviously, "Heal The World", on the Dangerous Tour.

Oddly, he sang most everything live on the BAD World Tour. His voice was in top shape at that point.

Yeah, I know this. Nobody is saying he didn't lip-sync a lot, but comparing Michael Jackson to Britney Spears because of some lip-syncing is a wack argument. MJ was in the business for 40 + years and did hundreds (if not thousands) of live shows and performances during the 60's, 70's and 80's before he got comfy and started lip-sycncing, and even then he still had his flashes of brilliance and sung live here and there. That was my point.

His mic is on for Jam in Dangerous Tour, though. Or for Bucharest, anyway. Same with Smooth Criminal.

Different shows. When she says "there's no reason why i fell asleep late last night" in the amateur video, she grabs her right ear and tips her hat .. she doesnt grab her right ear or tip the hat in when she says it on the version you posted
[Edited 11/6/09 15:39pm]

Ehh I never said her whole show was live. I know she sings some songs live and others pre-recorded because SHE'S DANCING mmkay. At least she pre-records instead of lipping over actual album recordings like some people

Mhmmm!

What's the difference?

There is a huge difference between several artists appearing on a pre-recorded half hour TV show and shelling out good money to see someone perform "live".

Despite all the Janet/Britney comparing that's going on in this thread at the end of the day the thing that makes Janet superior to Britney is this: she's actually had a hand in writing and co-roducing a large majority of her musical catelog and Britney hasn't. In fact, of the songs that Britney has supposedly written only a hand full of them have been put on any of her albums and only one was made into an actual music video. People can compare all they want, but Britney can't touch Janet except in sales, but that seems to be more due to die-hard Britney fans who will buy anything that her face is on. Sales are nice, but really like someone made mention of Milli Vanilli earlier in this topic, they sold millions of copies too and won a Grammy but we all know what happened in the end of that moment in music history. I've purchased albums that debuted at number 1 thanks to loads of hype and publicity; and, they were terrible; and, I've purchased albums that barely broke the 100,000 sale mark and they were phenomenal. In the end, high sales don't always guarentee real talent; and, real talent doesn't always guarantee high sales. All just my twocents

Britney is a pop music puppet. She's lazy too.She doesn't even really *try* to sing....she's content to lip-sync 90% of her show. It's hard to respect an "artist" like that.

He had his mic ON so he can do some random yelling moments, but he was still lip synching. Like during HIStory tour for "Beat It", he starts off yelling into the mic, then the playback comes on

the problem with Janet is her vocals are rerecorded with each tour, also like Madge her backing vocals area always on and the sound tech adjust as their vocal abilities go south because of dancing. aside from the adlibs ate the beginning this isn't live.

like i said it's not 100% live... there are alot of tricks in there to counter the dancing.

I can't believe how grown Craig David looks and still has that little boy voice! He sounds great! Other people who don't do the lip synch thing and sound great-Maxwell, Mary J Blige, Brandy, Keyshia Cole, Christina Aguilera, Shakira....so it can be done. I don't hate on Janet because when she sings live she sounds exactly like her recorded vocals, I thought she was always prerecorded too, but she is not.

she has got to be the best lipsyncher ever in the history of lipsynching because I refuse to think that over 50% of her shows are lipped- if so, they need to give her a lipsankin Grammy award

I love me some Janet- the girl is fierce and her work ethic blows everyone outta the water

Shakira actually does lip sycnc and the others you listed don't dance so it's only reasonable that they don't lip. I agree, Janet does sound like the actual recording as you can see form the RN1814 tour and many other performances on various other tours.
