Why release that when it's a part of a DVD that will be out soon? What's the point?

Cause it's audio? I'm saying something crazy? Frankly, it should have been the soundtrack, not just releasing the greatest hits yet again with "rarities"! Rushing this made no damn sense unless they never intend to release full audio versions of the songs.

I mean, am I the crazy one here?

You're right. They were playing the soundtrack of the film over the theatre speakers when I went to pick up my tickets before the show. It sounded great. It may have not been fully realised enough because he isn't singing the full songs on many of the tracks, but I definitely would have bought it if they had of. I'm holding off on getting as of yet.

I'm sorry if this has been addressed already but I'm very surprised that the actual live recordings of the songs were not put on a CD. Will that happen later or is there absolutely no talk of that. The "soundtrack" strikes me as disappointing. While I am interested in seeing this movie, I might do it only if it goes into a third week and when the hype dies down a bit. That being said, just based on the commercials, there are live recordings of all these songs, right? Is this something Joe Jackson wants to release for himself?

Forgive me also if this has been discussed; but as I'm listening to the CD audio version of "This Is It", I'm having a hard time hearing what is different about it from previous releases of these same songs. Is it that they're "remastered"? And if so, weren't these same songs "remastered" before? I mean, I do notice that there are a few extra "demo" versions, but I can't really hear much that's special about this CD. Haven't seen the movie yet, so I can't know how this CD might be relevant. Anyone? Anyone?

Honestly, I don't get why nobody is talking about this more here or anywhere else. Yes, it is the same hits that have been released over and over again. Nothing unique about the set except "This Is It", the song(s), and the poem. Unless the demos are featured in the movie (and I'm almost sure they are not), they are a strange addition. I think they might even be on recently released REMASTERS of the Sony albums. "This is It" the soundtrack is a cluster fuck of a cash in. I'm glad I didn't buy it.

Czech republic. Well, this was not an article about the film, but Michael in general. They´re idiots. I mean what´s so one-sided about MJ?

He must have not visited any of their orphanages. Who gives a fuck what some journalist in the fucking Czech Republic thinks? Apart from the architecture in Prague, they have little of any interest to offer anybody, where's their World-dominating Superstar?

tumbleweed

He did.
These are from Prague.

And there´s one even cuter picture of Mike in the orphanage. If I find it, I´ll post it.

I was speaking to someone about the recent releases

they haven't really been remastered, just the volume raised. They have yet to do a full duty remastering of Michael and The Jacksons' albums, although I think the recent Mini LP replica releases in Japan are pretty close

The audio will be on the DVD.

You're saying there will be an audio CD packaged with the DVD? The audio being on the DVD is not acceptable. It's like if Prince never released "Purple Rain" as a soundtrack. Or more fittingly, if somehting like that Rolling Stones movie from a few years ago did not have a CD soundtrack. We are so willing to accept the death of the CD that this IS it?

I'd didn't think there were plans 2 do a audio package, that is why u received that WACK set of reissues in the "This Is It" set this past Tuesday.

Slightly off topic but...
What was the new song going to be on the This Is It CD when Michael
was going to still be alive? Anyone know the name of the track?
I remember back when he was gearing up for o2, there was some
announcement that along with the shows was a greatest hits CD
with a new song.

He never got to rehearse it sad

but there were other songs rehearsed, which is why some ppl like me want them to include more footage on the dvd/blu ray release

I am not sure he might have rehearsed it, if you look in the trailer the girls are praticing at the staples centre and in the film they are in a warehouse so there is definately more footage from them. Also you can see the bed in the background whilst he is on the cherry picker in one of the scenes. I am hoping it is being saved for the dvd extras

alot of the footage in the trailer arent in the actual film so i hope they make a really amazing dvd with loads of extras

we are missing a few of the songs from the film such as

Dirty Diana
Bad
Dangerous
We are the World
Heal the World
Will you be There

though the last 3 apparently werent being done until they got to London and had the choir there

The most annoying thing is they talk about how they are going to talk about the show ending just before the man in the mirror but they never tell you how it ends.

ok so i'm not nuts!! thts my only gripe about the film, that it feels incomplete in the sense tht u can just TELL there had to have been more songs!!
Yesterday is dead...tomorrow hasnt arrived yet....i have just ONE day...
...And i'm gonna be groovy in it!

One question - Was anyone surprised that "Rock With You" wasn't part of the set list or at least not featured in the film? Do you think it might be an extra on the DVD? It seemed like they stuck to the mainstream pop hits and excluded the R&B hits. That was my observation.

Just from reading articles and interviews since his death, I don't think MJ was that fond of Off The Wall. It wasn't his sole vision, the grammys snubbed him.

I know I would have much MUCH rather seen full performances of some Off The Wall songs rather than Thriller or Beat It again which did very much have the 'he's done this many times before' feel about it.

Oh, I didn't know that. Thanks for the 411. Well, I guess that makes sense. If he had more control or input in shaping the vision of the later works that were bigger hits, then I can see why he would shy away from the Off the Wall material. However, as a casual MJ fan, the Off the Wall stuff is still my favorite despite the massive popularity of the Thriller stuff or songs like Black or White that really never did it for me. I wonder what his thoughts were on songs like Remember the Time or You Rock My World. Those were popularity in the R&B world, but I don't know about the Pop side so I don't know if there were plans to include them in the show.

Joe Jackson has no rights and no say regarding any Michael Jackson song whatsoever! I don't know where this notion comes, that Joe has any say in anything concerning Michael releases!

The song wasn't going to be on anything. Sony "found" the song and put it on the cd simply because he said "This Is It" in the song and I guess they felt like the song would match the "short film"

i went to see it , and i think im going to see it again next week.

bboys description was on point, i just loved the candid view the film gave us.
even though he was not giving his all, he still sounded great.
i just cant stop loving you , i mean damn.

note : did anyone else noticed michaels nasaly sound during talking with kenny about the inner ear?

and the quality difference of the footage. some of it was HD , other seemed like amateur material.

other than that i enjoyed it. and the new video clips where awesome.
imagine the kind of video clips mike would have recorded for future releases , or what if this kind of technology was available in the 80s . thriller was awesome. edit i liked the threatend outro with the bass and all eek

I don't know yet but Sony don't own any of MJ's recorded music after 2004. There's yet to be a bidding war on all of that between labels and his estate.

I think he figured since they were just rehearsals,he wasn't going to wear himself out,he would save that for the actual shows. He even made reference about not wanting to sing out, cause he needed to save his voice. I think he wasn't "giving his all" on purpose. nod

Hmm, well, I wasn't expecting much and was blown away. It was just a good movie. It's not that I think this was a defining performance, because it wasn't, but it just showed people that he still had the skills, and it was fun to watch. That's all. I don't know how people can be more than mildly dissapointed unless they had unrealistic expectations to begin with.

As for the This Is It album... yes, it's a bit of a cash-in. But ALL popular celebs get cashed in on. It's just a fact of life. The set could have been better: the second disc, for instance, could have had more hits. But it's not exactly rare for a greatest hits package to only contain a handful of new or unreleased tracks to entice you to buy the album. It happens all the time.

I'm only mildy dissapointed. I didnt dislike it or anything. And I'm only mildy dissapointed because of all the reviews I read on here. I wasnt expecting much before opening night, but because everyone here loved it I thought for sure I would too. But again most people here were from the big cities with a great amount of people/fans watching it. The audience can completely change a movie, it would of felt like a real concert that way, when your in a positive frame of mind and all.
