Love it! lol

Saw it again last night with my son. Next time I'm only watching Michael's feet.

*“This Is It.” Matters not what you do or pursue in this life. After witnessing Jackson's dizzying onscreen craftsmanship and indefatigable dedication to his thing, if you aren't left with the irrepressible desire to step up your own game, then you missed MJ's most dynamic move ever.

All that doesn't change the fact that the movie sucks!

What were you expecting out of the movie? I don't mean that in a bad or derogatory way, but I'm just curious as to what you expected to see.

Crazy people in this thread.

Some folk in here do not want anyones honest critique of the movie.
Just their own small minded opinions. Honestly read the thread from the star and u will see what I mean.

Think I will just head to saner threads.

no it's not your opinion that is the problem....it's your tone.

what tone is that? Anyone who reads back 4 pages can see its you who is attacking everyone who says a non perfect word about "this is it"!

Your view might have been 'influenced' by what you wanted to see.

I read people here say: his dancing was still plendid, his singing was still great.

Really, i am questioning what 'glasses' you were wearing when you looked at his dancing: but from the snippets I have seen, i noticed his movements were wooden / awkward / not energetic at all, I dont need to see some entire plastic movie to see more of that.

In those snippets i saw MJ was lypsynching again, while the music was prerecorded.

I dont need to see an entire movie, to get more irritated.

When some snippets of 'This is it' allready show that MJ is some superficial, lazy, plastic act, why should i watch the entire movie then? Its simply not my idea of music and artistry.

then why don't you get your self righteous bitter prince fanbot ass out of this thread then?

Nope. In Michael's 1993 Deposition in Mexico, he mentions the song. He was on tour from June 92-Nov 93, which means it was recorded the song during the tour.

September 1993

My correction - i meant it wasn't recorded until well after the tour.

saw the movie today....i'm wasn't really excited about it. It feels like every concert of Michael was pretty much the same. Don't get me wrong, i love his music, but i didn't see anything i haven't seen before. Watching a performance, i could already tell what he was going to do next. Like with the Jackson 5 medley, he screans 'everybody'...he did that since the Bad tour. Billy jean, Thriler...sorry, but we've seen it before. Human Nature (one of my favourite songs of all time), it was just the same as 20 years ago.
On the other hand, i really loved the gay athmosphere...guys taking off there shirts, guys touching their crotch while Michael was dancing, the military fetish...and the only woman on stage (they should have said at the audition: men only!), he didn't know how to deal with her....mmmh, just wished he had come out of the closet.
RIP Michael...he seems like such an innocent and sensitive man, maybe too inconcent for this world...I hope they won't keep milking his death till forever...but they probably will, cause thats the world we live in...its all about the money

Maybe he didn't come out of the closet because he wasn't gay. Just a thought. They took their shirts off during The Way You Make Me Feel because they were doing what they did during the music video. He was pretty flirtatious with Judith Hill, I thought. He almost grabbed her tit at one moment.

One of the "cages" Michael's performance was locked in was that people expected certain things done certain ways - people wanted to see the Thriller dance routine, the Smooth Criminal routine, the Billie Jean routine, Beat It routine. Unfortunately it was a bit of a lose/lose - if he didn't do these routines fans would feel robbed (and people would say he was past it) and by doing it some fans felt it is all same same.

Whilst understanding it, I also wish he had mixed it up more - i loved the new flourishes in Thriller/Threatened and the visual backdrop of Smooth Criminal.

Maybe you're right, i don't know, i just felt a really gay atomsphere...the way he puts his hand on the leg of the woman while singing "I just can stop...", it just didn't looked natural. And then, he looked really happy dancing with the guys. And how many times did you see a woman dance? Like 5 minutes...that was it.

Its the risk you take...how do you know people want to see the same Thriller dance routine? I mean, at the end, its all about the music. I've seen the Thriller dance a 1000 times, i know he's gonna fly over the audience during "Beat it" and screams "Whooooo!". Its like the director said during the movie: "You've been here before". But he's an artist, its not a puppet show...but thats how i see it. Maybe i'm asking too much wink

So true, so true.

Now, I do see how long-time fans and followers could get a bit bored. I do wish he had mixed a few things up. There's no reason for They Don't Care About Us to be performed over other classics. He could easily just do Man In The Mirror OR Heal The World, he didn't have to do both. Replace The Love You Save with Dancing Machine, Keep On Dancing or Blame It On The Boogie. Just change it up.

But given that the film was rehearsals, I did see more changes than I expected and like you said, adding things like Threatened and the new videos helped to make old stuff feel new again. And the instrumentation and live vocals helped things quite a bit.

What do you mean by this? Should he have groped her? Would that have made him seem less gay to you? It was a rehearsal, and he was being a gentleman, why would he have thought it right to be all over her? rolleyes

it has nothing to do with being it a rehearsal, because he acts the same way in concerts. Or you really thought the kiss in the "remember the time" video looked natural to you? And it has nothing to do with being a gentleman...it's about passion. Passion for dance, passion for eachother and i didn't see that passion with that woman...

Where do you get military gay fetish thing from? This is what I do not understand about people who say things like this about an artist...They take the dumbest examples to show that they artist is flawed? If you were to look at Prince in the early days of his career, he would walk around on stage in his underwear, but he ended up sharing the stage with both men and women, so your example is quite flawed...

Thats so not true. Michael thought that was the case. But I've never talked to a fan who didnt want Michael to change it up. Everyone wanted to see new routines. I think its casual fans who wanted the same crap but they werent the ones going to the shows.

Saying what you just said, Arnotts, is like saying, "Michael should stop doing the moonwalk, because he has done it a thousand times. While IT IS nice to see him try new things, there are those of us "fans", casual and die-hard, that would love to see Michael do his routine.

LOLOL i did the same thing, I dressed up as MJ, during his BAD era, but this guy said i looked like janet. I had on glitter socks, boots and the black jacket with buckets, and studded belt. I don't understand how i looked like janet. But whatever. lol lol lol

I had fun watching the movie, it made me laugh and but mostly cry cause michael was being such a cutie pie. He know half the time he forgot the words and tried to fake like it was the ear piece in his ear.

That was his final televised performance in the States. He did the World Music Awards in the UK and accepted an award here or there, but that Dangerous performance was his last honest to goodness TV performance.

To me, he was comfortable dancing with all of them. It was when he was dancing or singing close to the girls. He seemed like he had "butterflies'.

Again. maybe you're right, but there just were hardly any women around. You have to agree. don't you? When i see a Prince concert, it really doesn't mather...guys, girls, they all get mixed up...but i didn't see that in this movie. And all the military stuff...thats a really gay fetish

Not getting into the was he wasn't he conversation - it's redundant and makes no difference. But wanted to address a few things...

The male dancers were on stage more because they had more numbers that have traditionally been presented with a male ensemble - think "Smooth Criminal" "Beat It" etc - but even in these routines the female dancers were on stage. The only song (shown) that had the female dancer/s in more of a lead role was The Way You Make Me Feel and the interaction dancing there was more jazz orientated in the moves with more flourishes of hands and extensions of feet, more flowing.

As for the hand on the thigh moment in I Just Can't Stop Loving You - yes it was forced because it was always there since the Dangerous tour - a subtle move that the audience would lap up. More natural were the moments when he would pull the female duet partner into his grip and hold her - minor moments but still evident.

One number that didn't make it to the edit (not sure if they had fully rehearsed it) was Dirty Diana. Although the film gives a glimpse of what was to happen, Michael would have been surrounded by pole dancing female leads and aerialists who would dance in "go-go" style chandeliers that descended on the stage, while the pole dancers would dance around a large bed being erected. A "fire goddess" would then seduce Michael around the stage with him being tied to the bed. A drape would have covered him and then pulled back to reveal him gone (this tour's disappearing intro into Beat It). This number definitely would have dialed up the interaction between Michael and the female dancers.

Just helping create a full picture of what was going to be shown.
