Don't hold your breath. These shows have gotten worse and worse in the past 10 years (at least).

My picks:

BEST NEW ARTIST
-- Solange
(No clue who the other four were)

BEST R&B/SOUL ARTIST FEMALE
-- Whitney Houston

BEST MALE R&B/SOUL MALE
-- Maxwell

SONG OF THE YEAR
-- "Pretty Wings" - Maxwell
(although I think Beyonce and her non-songwriting ass will get it, but I think Jennifer Hudson deserves it more out of the two)

ALBUM OF THE YEAR
-- Maxwell - Blacksummer's Night (Gold) Sony Music
(see above)

RECORD OF THE YEAR (SONGWRITER AWARD)
-- Maxwell - "Pretty Wings"
Why the fuck is Beyonce nominated for this? She didn't write that damn song! If they're going to list the songwriters, let's not forget Christopher Stewart, Terius Nash, Kuk Harrell as well.

BEST REGGAE ARTIST AWARD
I couldn't care less about this award.

CENTRIC AWARD - SOUL APPROVED/UNDERGROUND
Que?

BEST GOSPEL PERFORMANCE MALE, FEMALE OR GROUP
-- BeBe and CeCe Winans - "Close To You"

BEST COLLABORATION
-- Mary Mary featuring Kierra (KiKi) Sheard - "God In Me"
Honestly, I've not heard any of these songs.

Maxwell. I think he'll go unnoticed, and I think he's never quite gotten the acknowledgment that he deserves. A person writing and actually singing in this world is the exception, not the rule. But we're sure to have a show filled w/ nonsense "special performances" filled with rappers, half-cocked "singers", and plenty of machismo, crotch grinding, and general bullshit.

With this being Mary Mary's year, I think "God In Me" will garner them a few awards. It is one of my favorite songs of the year. I think the song has been out since around February or March and it is still getting major air play on Gospel and R&B stations.

BeBe and CeCe would surprise me if they won. Their album just came out a few weeks ago.

They will probably give Maxwell a few since he is the only real r&b artist that's really "big"(if you want to call him big) right now.

I like that they came up with a few other categories and it doesn't allow Beyonce to get a shit-load of awards. It evens the playing field. I wonder why they didn't do the video awards?

* Charlie Wilson (might win for "There Goes My Baby". That song won't die)
* Maxwell (might win since everyone loves "Bad Habit" and "prettywings)

The Soul Train Awards is a good show, it's just people got "too famous" for it, and they don't show up to accept their awards.

Did you see the last few shows? OMG, they were horrible. I don't think it was the fact that the people didn't show up or they got too big, I think it was the quality and value of the show. When they started handing out awards to no-name people that only released one song that didn't even chart, and awarding songs that weren't hits, it causes it to lose credibility.

Come on, did these songs/artists really deserve a ST award?:
2003 Ashanti "Foolish"
2001 Jagged Edge J.E. Heartbreak
2003 B2K B2K
2004 B2K Pandemonium!
2003 Amerie
2004 Chingy
2007 Young B & Webstar "Chicken Noodle Soup"

Also, I think artists got tired of Don coming out and cursing them out and telling them to stop acting like N____.

A local radio station used to go to the ST awards every year. The last year they went was the year Notorious BIG died. They used to say how Don would come out and tell them to applaud when they come from break. Sometimes he would reshoot someone coming out if he didn't like the crowd reaction and a bunch of other things.

Mixtapes aren't albums and don't get voted on by anyone. It's strictly a promotional tool.
