La Bamba: Ritchie Valens vs. Los Lobos

Which version do you like better?

Ritchie Valens....

Or Los Lobos....

I like them both but I think I like Los Lobos' remake better than the original.

And since we're on the subject of Ritchie Valens, here's one of all-time favorite scenes:

I spotted something absolutely gorgeous over by the drums in that scene. I like this scene here because I would love to help him with the problem he's having. lol

And here's another great song from that movie. razz

Why?? He mimed the singing parts just like J-Lo did when she portrayed Selena

If you mean the acting part, yeah then I agree.

Thank you. You figured out the inside joke. nod lol As a matter of fact, Lou predated Milli Vanilli with this acting tactic.

I love both versions but I think when you consider the age Ritchie was at and the point in rock history where joy, celebration and the democratic ideal was being lived out, I'd go with real life over the imitation. You can hear in Ritchies version that he's just a kid, you also hear the same vibrant enthusiasm which Elvis and most of the other early rocker's had. Los Lobos were mature men, the production was better, and I loved the version taking it back to it's beautiful mexican roots. But in now way shape and form was is as pure and innocent as Ritchie's

I'm at work now and can't see the video but I bet that's the scene where Bob gets into bed with Ritchie and then tells him he better keep his ass to the wall because he's so drunk he might mistake him for Rosie. lol

I'm telling ya, I know that movie inside and out, especially the scenes with Esai. razz

Great points. I had never considered the vocal delivery since I'm more into music in general rather than vocals and the musical sound on Los Lobos' version sounds better to me. I assume because they recorded their's in the 1980s with more modern instruments and better recording equipment. But you are right about Ritchie's version, it does sound much more innocent and true to his character.
