She was the queen of Atlantic records long before Aretha & Roberta Flack. In fact, she & LaVern Baker were the 1st female singers that were signed in that label. Little Richard cites her as one of his influences(he said he got that squeaky wail from her).

And yes, her Atlantic records period are def worth the listen nod

Yes ..Give Mrs Brown a listen to.. one of my faves by her is Mama He Treats Your Daughter Mean...

Attitude for days love

If I'm not mistaken, that broadway play was her BIG career revival along with Ms.Linda Hopkins. My mother(a big broadway buff) went to that show ALOT of times when got played in broadway.
