Randy Jackson (Randy & The Gypsys) - "I Can't Wait" (1989)

...

I always dug these tunes...the hooks, the changes, vocals....Very Underrated!!!

I think that one problem was being on A&M records at the same time as Janet....and of course, everyone was in the shadow of MJJ....

"I Can't Wait"

The Love We Almost Had

Not Because Of Me

Luv U Honey

Luv Thang

These two are my favorites, The love you almost had is a wonderful ballad with a jazzy flavour, nice chord changes and key changes. Randy's vocals is very nice here.

I like the powerful ending (beginning from 4.10) of Not Because of Me. Best vocal work from Randy ever IMO. Very good ad libs. His voice usually lacked power and he wasn't happy with his range (according to what I read) but he really is performing this at the top of his ability. Somehow he brings out vocal chops I didn't think he had. Almost at Jermaine's vocal level there. The last part really has a wonderful groove and reaches another level.

I never understood why Randy never made it. No, he's not as good as Jermaine and he damn sure ain't Michael, but hell...he's just as good as Janet besides the choreography.

At the time of this release was he still being managed by daddy or did he do this on his own? It sounds like an attempt at Control but I guess it failed.

Is this even sold in stores anymore?

I totally agree withcha, pali. Totally underrated. This was a good album. Randy couldn't really capitalize on being MJ's baby brother like Janet did being MJ's baby sister....despite Randy's talent on his own. He brought to the table as a songwriter and musician, some very cool jams for The Jacksons. Should have hit paydirt with this.
