Whitney Houston "I Look To You" CD

Well looks like everyone is already over it I guess. It's leaked so who cares but I actually waited and bought the CD. I only heard the first 3 "singles" which were good but overall the album is even better. A real fun R&B pop affair although with quite a bit of "through the storm" type lyrical stuff. No actual big ballad love songs (guess it's not the right time) but lots of stuff about getting over obstacles and haters.

Now maybe I'm behind but this really confused me. Track 8 is called "Worth It" but it almost should be called "For The Lovers"...than Track 9 is actually called that and it fits....but it's a totally different song.

So did they do the thing where they wrote two songs with the same title? Is is it a mistake (on the CD?) or not.
I'd love to hear some fan reviews. I might do a song by song one later. Overall, it's good but nothing amazing. Probably better than "Just Whitney".

She had the album streamed before it leaked, I heard the stream, it's cool. Not great but cool. The Akon tracks of course sucked to me, lol

Yeah, I don't think anyone is excited about it. Whitney is about 5 or so years too late for a real comeback. Maybe after her GMA performance airs on Wednesday, the album will get a boost.

We know it will get a boost after Oprah airs her interview.

Oh no doubt that will be big boosts for Whitney. Musically, the album doesn't bring nothing new to the table but at least she's not somewhere with Bobby getting high on rocks. whew

I think that was the plan from the beginning. Clive wanted to just make a solid album with "classic" Whitney songs. I don't think the album is horrible, but i think it's a little bland. I'll take this "bland" project over the "Just Whitney" album....any day.

Oh yeah it's not horrible at all. In fact, it's way better than that Just Bobby, er, Whitney mess she put out. I was worried for Whitney after the album came out and she did that interview ("crack is wack") and the reality show but compared to what she was going through seven years ago, she's slowly making her way back. And I honestly believe it's one of her best albums. Whitney has always been what you call a singles artist, lol. She can actually do a soul-blues album with that voice, lol But she probably won't because of who she is - a pop diva. shrug

I know Andy's gonna be trashing it when he sees this thread. biggrin

I listened to the album yesterday and didn't really care for it. I was expecting a fantastic comeback, but the material is safe and kinda uninspired. I love Whitney and I'm glad she's back though.

I liked "Call You Tonight" and "Million Dollar Bill" immediately. "Nothin But Love" is okay. Maybe the other songs will grow on me... hopefully

I wanted an album as strong as My Love is Your Love, but this will have to do for now.

That was the last true Whitney album that most of the pop audience remembers.

For real. I doubt they knew she released Just Whitney. Once Clive Davis left the picture and Bobby Brown tried to put his stamp on it, people ran away. But I'm sure ILTY will get better results over time.

You're right. I listened toJust Whitney again a few weeks ago and there are some decent tracks on it. The album was released right after the whole "Crack is wack" fiasco, so there was negative press too.

Salute is FIREEE!!
I love it! The production is mediocre though. Probably would've been better if R. produced it.

I'm overall very pleased with the CD. I love the maturity and smokiness of her voice. After a few listens, I'd have to say "Salute" should be the next single. Great track!

But my favorite is still "I Didn't Know My Own Strength." Incredible track.

I just got through listening to her Cd via her website. I agree, "I Look To You" Cd, it's a solid outing. Kinda like her arrangement of "A Song For You", different. People and the shit we go through, those of our own making and circumstances beyond our control, I wish Ms. Houston well.

I didn't listen to "Salute" all the way through. Sounded like more R. Kelly mush ("One More Chance" for MJ for example wasn't exactly thrilling).

Also, am I the only one surprised that the song "Worth It" doesn't seem to have the lyrics "Worth It" in it? Or maybe I'm just not hearing it.

Extremely weak chorus that Michael seemed barely committed to for one. It's not a terrible song but it's certainly not great (and very unfornately his last release, no?).

According to Wikipedia.
The other Austin track on the album titled "Worth it" was produced by Eric Hudson and is a R&B piano ballad that is described as the dark horse of the album.[12]

Again, track 8 is this midtempo song about "For The Lovers" (if not the title, the major theme). Than 9 is also "For the Lovers", but it's more upbeat and a slightly different feel. So something is up? Surprised this wasn't caught before.
