More Funky Stuff Alright alright, I need another favor from my fellow Orgers or org droogies...whatever.. all you people
I need some good R&B / Soul artists and albums to get.... I am really trying to increase my musical library and musical talent and wanna learn more on guitar... Cooking class...YOUNT...Gimme a lil bit a dat peppa....gimme a lil bit a dat salt...put it in the skillet and cook it...On that stove I bought....WE DON'T NEED NO MICROWAVE!!! | |

Bobby Womack is a great guitarist with some really classic soul. If you play the goodtar u should know the Isley Bros., Lakeside, Jesse Johnson, and a jazz cat named Mike Stern. If you really want to DIG. Find records where the late "Spanky" Alford played. ...Also a big fan of Jubu Smith. | |

what kind of funk are you into?
80s synthesizer funk? organic bass and horn heavy jams from the 70s? uptempo dance music or soulful vocal based ballads? hit google and search "Bentleyfunk blogspot" there are mad albums on there with new downloads posted daily, just select the ones you think look cool(or based on the year they were released, you can usually guess the sound from the era) being a fan of the mplsound born in mpls and living in minnesota my whole life i will suggest the local stuff first. here we go. Jesse Johnson- Jesse Johnsons Revue Jesse Johnson- Shockadelica Jesse Johnson- Every shade of love Jesse is the man on guitar if you dont know that already Andre Cymone-Livin in the new wave Andre Cymone-Surviving in the 80's Andre Cymone-AC its Andre, what more can i say. a lot of catchy tracks with some nice basslines and riffs throughout Mazarati-Mazarati Mplsound with an 80s Rock influence (anyone who knows of my existence on this forum knows that im one of the most diehard mazarati fans around, personally i love every song they ever made, which isnt too many but you should check out the album. Strawberry Lover has a driving guitar riff that should catch your attention) Morris Day-The color of success very funky and synthesizer based but it has its share of guitar work, although highly processed and somewhat murky in the mix it still stands out. The Time-The Time The Time-What time is it The Time-ice cream castles The Time-pandemonium WHAT TIME IS IT?. If you havnt heard these albums you need to get on that RIGHT AWAY. all of the albums were produced by Prince aside from pandemonium (which is still a great album and far better than ice cream castles imo) i could go on forever but ill wait, this thread could die and i just wasted my time but im all for helping someone in my age group get hooked up with some nice grooves. This thread won't die, I am actually trying to get into stuff. I love jesse johnson!! The time and him are great!
but I am just into any kinda funk right now.. Just trying to get more into that category so I know whats going on! I always wanted to get into the Isley Brothers, whats a good album i should get? hmm, im not too big on the Isleys so i cant help you there.
try looking into "Ebonee Webb". very funky group Rick James is must. every album he released up to "the flag" is good The Bar-Kays are another great group. they kind of followed trends to stay current so they have various styles of funk from every era. The Reddings are another group with a great bass player in Dexter Redding. two of the members of the group are either sons or nephews(cant recall) of the late Otis Redding.they have some nice bass heavy grooves and slower jams. The Brothers Johnson. you gotta check them out. Blam! is a killer album from them. Bobby Nunn has some fun synthesizer based grooves. he played keyboards on some of rick james early stuff How could i forget THE GODFATHER. James Brown. as a matter of fact before you even think about getting down on any other stuff you should go on a hardcore JB binge. he laid the foundation for Funk. GOOD GOD! Make sure it has "Footsteps in the Dark". ..."That Lady" and "Groove with You" also are really nice. | |
