"Freedom 90" Appreciation

Seriously, this is my song. I had been a George Michael fan for several years but skipped over this song for about ten years, and then one day, I just randomly started playing it, and line by line, he was speaking to me. This song really is amazing. The music. The lyrics. What it says. What it implies. No matter if you want to apply to George's life it is equally fascinating if you want to take it and apply to anyone's else's life who has ever struggled with finding their identity or place in the world. No matter if George Michael never writes/releases another song again, this one song is enough, for me to say, his talent and skill as a songwriter is up there with the best. It makes me sad to think he is under-appreciated as a songwriter, but in my book, this song is totally in my top 3 favorite songs of all time, and my iPod will never hear the last of it.

Anyone else wanna throw down some love for my little hit song that could, feel free.

And if nothing else, you gotta love the video! Right? cool

Ive been listening to Listen Without Prejudice this morning - such a fine album. I amazed its never been reissued, with all the tracks intended for Volume II. Definitely a career high for him.

It's one GM song I usually skip past. There are moments I can get into it, and some times I can't. I do enjoy the message though. He was really starting his struggle with Sony at the time and he came out with guns blazing. He also references Andrew Ridgley in it.

Fair to note that in 1996 when Robbie Williams left Take That, his first solo single was a cover of this GM song. He reached #2 with it in the UK, so not a bad start as a solo artist. He did omit a line though, "we had every big shot good time band on the run boy, we were living in a fantasy".

Great track this one, though I do tend to skip it now due to overkill on the radio, besides so many other tracks on the cd are just perfect!

Gotta agree with the last two posts - it's a GREAT track, by anyone's standards, and I love it when I hear it. However, LWP is stuffed full of classic songs - where do you start with an album like that??! eek dead worship music
