Mazarati's sleeve is rated by many as quality artwork. I always dug Slave's galactical artwork as well.
Civil Attack's sleeve has that trademark 80's collage of photos and the red lettering is tight.
Mtume's covershooting was in an atmospherish baroque-setting and at the time their wardrobe was considered quite hip.
I never had problems with these sleeves. In retrospect everything from the past seems unappealing or whatever lol.

confuse Not sure what's happening here.
With all the alleged Funakateers around, I thought this thread would be flooded by now.

These are some of the ones that do it for me personally

The Foundation:

...Sex Machine - James Brown

This was a difficult decision.
Picking the artist was easy. It had to be JB.
It was deciding which album to select is where the problem came in.
In the end I just picked one I liked that covered a lot of ground.

The Frame:

...So Sharp! - Dyke & The Blazers

Take the JB concept and make it even more raw-dawg.

...Rejuvenation - The Meters

The New Orleans perspective.

...KOOL and the Gang - Kool & The Gang

Adding some harmonic color & jazzy improv.

The Penthouse:

...Thrust - Herbie Hancock

Now i'll admit that after a while, single-line Funk vamps have a tendency to get incredibly stagnant.
This is why it was refreshing to hear someone add advanced harmonic interest/improvisational chops to the proceedings.
Underneath it all, the Paul Jackson/Mike Clarke rhythm section gave a lesson in how to be creatively funky without being boring.

All I have to say to that is a quote from Tower of Power:

DaMFunK

Hello.
First of all, I wanna say much respect & thanx 2 Cinnie who 'truly get's it'. Second, I would like 2 say peace & much luv 2 ALL the Prince.org fam.
Third, U know damn well I'mma respond in detail & with full strength 2 all of this 'analysis' going on about this so called (*missed named) "Top 5 Essential Funk LPs" list real soon.

(*For the record, just so you'll know...I didn't name the list that title...the author of THE BLOG did. What my selections SHOULD HAVE BEEN titled was:"My Favorite 80's based FUNK, BOOGIE, & MELODIC-FUNK LPs'. But, what they did was changed the name/entry to: "Top 5 Essential Funk Lp's" for their sites readers!)

But, before I fully respond 2 all of this, (which, I'm sure is) 'well intentioned' yet, mostly 'uninformed cackle-lackin' about my 'personal choices' of music I like from that era...I must continue 2 the door & I hit the stage 2 FUNK Montreal outta 'dey mindz 2nite!! U See,...this is what I'm about y'all...DOIN' IT & NOT just PLAYIN' wit' it. I'm out here DOIN IT 4 the FUNK!!

So, in parting, I write all of this 2 humbly remind U 2 HOLD ON before y'all start trippin' on a Funksta. Sh*t, I'm out here on y'all side! I'm steadily & respectfully tryin' 2 uphold this FUNK in my own way in connection with MY generation, yet with a firm respect for the elders & the era's/past that came before me. Now,....please stay tuned, stay up & stay free!!
(I'll be back.)

1 luv.
