The next Midnight Soulstice, which airs this Friday, August 7th, is kinda a nostalgic show for me. As a native European, my roots as a DJ are in the Acid Jazz movement in London, which was a very powerful force in Europe in the early 1990s. A lot of very popular artists emerged from Acid Jazz, such as Jamiroquai, The Brand New Heavies, Galliano, Omar and more ... but the era of Acid Jazz is also known for many truly terrible and dull musical experiments.

On this week's show, I will focus on the great tracks of the Acid Jazz era - those tracks who will stand the test of time. Most of these tracks are well sought after today and impossible to find in their original formats (i.e., I'll be playing the original demo for Jamiroquai's first single When you gonna learn, recorded in 1991).

If anything, this will be a show with good London Soul, so tune in from 11 pm until 1 am Eastern at www.wrir.org

Some of the tracks you'll likely get to hear ...

man you gotta rock "Saturday by Omar" that's a cut man

Unfortunately we had to cancel tonight's show because somebody left one turntable in unplayable condition. Since we were prepared to play only vinyl, we were forced to cancel tonight's show. We apologize and promise to play the planned Acid Jazz show another time.

Once again, apologies for the cancelation of last night's Acid Jazz show. Midnight Soulstice is one of the very few shows on W-RIR that exclusively plays vinyl, so the turntables are not properly mainatined and defects are not always reported. We'll re-schedule the Acid Jazz special for later this month,

For next Friday, August 14th, we have already planned something else. We've debated whether or not to allow guest DJs on the show, and we have decided to launch a new series which will present to you mixes by the Best Funk DJs in the World! We know that this is a big title, but we're well connected in the global Funk scene, so you can be assured that every DJ will fulfill our high standards and tough criteria. biggrin

Our first guest next week will be DJ Larry Grogan from New Jersey. Larry has been a DJ for more than 25 years, and he has been writing about music for nearly around the same time, first in fanzines, then in newspapers and finally on the internet in the Funky16Corners web zine and for the last five years, the Funky16Corners blog.
He is also a well respected club DJ, both solo and as a part of the Asbury Park 45 Sessions crew (with DJ Prestige).

Tune in from 11 pm until 1 am Eastern at www.wrir.org We'll have more guest DJs coming up in the future, guys from all over the U.S. to Europe to Japan and Australia. Only the best!! biggrin

Show airs tonight from 11 pm until 1 am Eastern. Listen live at www.wrir.org biggrin

We've analyzed our download stats this week and we have learned that more than 500 peeps download our shows every month, with numbers rising. This does not include our listeners who tune in live online every week or listen on the radio locally. More than 3,500 peeps have downloaded our shows since last winter, when we started the new concept of Midnight Soulstice.

I know we got quite a few listeners from prince.org, so we'd like to thank each and everyone of you for your loyalty and support. We'll be sure to keep those shows coming. biggrin
