I need some help finding something to blend with this song....

One of my best friends is going to be performing in the show next month (lip syncing at a gay club) and as usual, he wants me to make him a mix of two songs. He wants to do part of "Sense Of Purpose" by Third World as one of the songs and he wants me to blend another song into it.

The problem is, I can't think of anything to blend into it other than "Billie Jean" but he doesn't want to do that one because Michael Jackson has become such a joke these days that he would get either laughed or booed off the stage (those queens do not like Michael Jackson). The only other songs I can think of would be "Forget Me Nots" by Patrice Rushen or "Take A Chance" by Nuance but those are by females so they won't work.

Anyway, can anyone think of something that would blend well with "Sense Of Purpose" by Third World that is by a male but is also not too obscure?

I thought of that one too. Of course, the Michael Jackson presence on the song turned him off. We did compromise on "Do It Again/Billie Jean" by Slingshot as a last resort but I wish I could find something different because the intro is so long on that song.

Ah i see, lol. Okay, maybe you're able to mix that Slingshot in there without the intro ? ... i'll check if there are other optional tracks.

That sounds pretty good. I had also thought of Queen's "Another One Bites The Dust" which might possibly work if speeded up a tad. I doubt those young queens in that club have ever heard "Abracabra" though. I don't even go to the club anymore because of the young crowd and their music but he works security there. I told my friend that I bet they have never heard "Sense Of Purpose" either but he seems to think they have. It sounds like it might work though. I'll give him the suggestion but I don't even think he likes the song himself. Now, you see what I'm dealing with here. lol

falloff Yeah, a tough cookie, i see. The vocal harmonies from Third World are solid ... really gives the track an extra punch. Good luck with your mix !

I tell ya what I'm thinking about approaching him with. Since he wants to do "Sense Of Purpose" for the older crowd in the club (which I think only exists in his mind lol ), then how about beginning the mix with a current song for the young crowd? And before you start giving suggestions for current songs, I don't have any because I don't like any. lol However, I do like this one, and I do have it...."Magic Touch" by Robin Thicke.

I could start it with "Magic Touch". "Sense of Purpose" does have some drums and handclaps in the intro. I would have to see if the two songs are around a close tempo but even if they aren't, I could slide the mixer over real quick and bring in "Sense Of Purpose" like the radio does between songs even if it didn't match. I'm not gonna let this fool rack my brains for a month. lol

evillol make shure you tape it or have somebody film it, so you can enjoy watching it again for fun. Just listened on Youtube to Magic Touch. Yeah, with some pitching could be a cool mix.

What about "Pop Goes My Love", by John Larocca or "Give Me", by I-Level?

I've never heard those myself so I know they haven't. These are Mississippi whores. lol They ain't heard too much obscure stuff other than what we used to play in the gay clubs in the 90s and most of them are too young to have even heard those songs. That's what I keep telling my friend. For those whores to have heard an old song, it would have to have been something fairly popular that still gets a little airplay today. lol

I-Level's "Give Me" is indeed an excellent track to mix with that ! They're from the UK, and i'm not shure if much copies of their single reached the US borders.
I'll check for that "Pop Goes My Love" ... so far i only noticed a track called like that by Levert, lol.

Neither the title, nor the group rings a bell to me. I might recognize it if I heard it again but I know this crowd would have never heard it.

I remember "Pop Goes My Love" by Freeeze.

I don't know what their damn problem is. Back was I was going to that club myself in the 1990s, everything the DJ played all night long was underground club music that the radio never played and we loved it. Hell, gay clubs for decades always had their own scene. Nowadays with the crowd the goes there now, if they've never heard it, they don't like it.

Oh....OK. I've heard that one and I have it also. That would probably blend pretty good with it. The problem is, those whores at that club haven't heard it though. lol

Oh, I agree totally but these fools are like none you've ever seen before. They don't give anything a chance. I told my friend that I don't even think they are going to like "Sense Of Purpose" let alone whatever else he wants blended into it. But you can't tell his hard headed ass anything.

I've told him several times that for the type of stuff he likes to perform, he needs to go across the street to the white gay club because that's where all the older black queens have been going for years. Also, those young white queens in there are a lot more open to variety than those little "gangsta" wannabes in the club where he works security. He's brought me CDs back that the DJ at the club he works at has made during the night and everything played is about shawties going low and shit. disbelief lol
