Please....please recommend a "Soul" singer

Are there any underground "Soul" singers out there? I need a recommendation on some new music that I can feel. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are talking about new releases of underground Soul music, I'd recommend these ...

Sharon Jones. The undisputed queen of 21st century Soul.

Lee Fields. A 70s Soul artist, but his new releases are as good as his old ones.

Nicole Willis. Hot. Very, very hot. Even though she records in Finland.

And you know I must mention James Brown's Soulsister #1 Marva Whitney. She's an oldschool singer of course, but her most recent release, backed up by Japan's mighty Osaka Monaurail, is an outstanding modern Soul/Funk album.

I think my homegirl Dionne and her group Baby Charles would qualify for this thread ... they are a pretty new group, but they are already tearing through the scene like a Tornado.

I would have posted them on the top of the list, but Gray asked for a Soul singer, not a Funk group, so back on topic now .. smile

Ian Martin released a tight project with various singers, a few years back :

And worth to check is the debut-album of Miss Olivia Warfield, currently performing with Prince :

If you weren't so quick to jump off the org music club last year, you would have heard Nicole already: http://prince.org/msg/8/278892

That single (and album) was released in 2005 already, and it was Nicole's debut on the Finnish Timmion label (an outstanding label, btw).
