Please....please recommend a "Soul" singer Are there any underground "Soul" singers out there? I need a recommendation on some new music that I can feel. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are talking about new releases of underground Soul music, I'd recommend these ...
Sharon Jones. The undisputed queen of 21st century Soul. Lee Fields. A 70s Soul artist, but his new releases are as good as his old ones. Nicole Willis. Hot. Very, very hot. Even though she records in Finland. [Edited 4/8/09 11:13am]

And you know I must mention James Brown's Soulsister #1 Marva Whitney. She's an oldschool singer of course, but her most recent release, backed up by Japan's mighty Osaka Monaurail, is an outstanding modern Soul/Funk album.

I think my homegirl Dionne and her group Baby Charles would qualify for this thread ... they are a pretty new group, but they are already tearing through the scene like a Tornado.

I keep coming back to her:
http://www.youtube.com/wa...re=related http://www.youtube.com/wa...re=related Her phrasing and delivery...with the well written lyrics and the arrangements...a perfect mix "I wasn't invited to shake hands with Hitler, but I wasn't invited to the White House to shake hands with the President, either" ~ Jesse Owens
