Name one major label all black band that still exists. The Roots don't count.

Why not? Because they're marketed as a "rap band"?

Perhaps you've not seen them in concert or are not aware of the fact that they have played on numerous soul/R&B albums.

In concert, they do several covers of NON-hip hop songs, ie: Marvin Gaye's "Got To Give It Up" and even Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal."

These guys are just a band. Simple as that. Even Questlove says so.

I'm mad at them for becoming Jimmy Fallon's house band lol

I had to jump in this thread. I am in a hip hop band myself www.myspace.com/heavymojo. I will tell you all first hand being in a band that is not a genre is really hard. Yes you get the deal yes you get to tour BUT you getting past the marketing dept is a no go. The Roots while they tour and do well BARELY can get radio play. Black bands have it harder breaking onto BLACK RADIO! I will never understand that. I toured with fishbone last year. MAYBE ten black faces in the crowd per show maybe. The thing is the urban world does not support artist like Mint Condition or a Joe Public. They have a hard time out here. Sad but true

I remember this song. Loved it when it first came out, and still do.
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Mint Condition pretty much has a 30 and older audience. There are not
that many twenty something year olds going to their shows. Don't get it
twisted though mint has a very loyal fan base.

Like I said, who would have thought they would have a 2 page thread on the org? I never would have "thunk" it? Nothing bad, just kind of amazed.

My question is were they a better band as atension than they were
joe public. I kind of liked let me push it to ya but they seemed like
a DaKrash knockoff and i never got to hear the whole album. I don't think
a whole lot of people and i'm not just talking about people on the org were
feeling joe public much outside of live and learn that's why people are
saying who would have thunk they would get a two page thread.
I guess we live and learn. lol

The fascination factor of their first album and where they were going to go.
And then we had Sunlite come and just drop a bombshell that Joe Public was a serious band and not a industry manufactured act. Sunlite, you should try to get a demo or a snippet and let people the hear Joe Public.

Someone should notify Bob Davis at Soul patrol and let people know about the realness of this band. It makes for a interesting story about a self contained band that was caught in gridlock between a confusing time in music for bands, period. I really was hoping that Joe Public was going to catch a current like Mint and Tony's did. But it just seemed like the music was so watered down, it was never going to happen for them in that direction.
