Aww man. Leslie is a true underrated great. The combo of him jamming on a LP Junior thru a Sunn Collesium or a 50 watt Marshall is pure ear candy.
He's influenced so many cats from Micheal Shencker to Ace Frehley to Joe Satriani. Tone, feel and vibrato? He's the one of the kings. I also dig how he bends a string with only 2 fingers. He's killin' again thru his new Dean guitars and Buddha amps. He's definetly one of my all time favorites. Funny dude too. | |

I got hip to Leslie West when I ran across "Flowers Of Evil". Why on that album did they leave out the opening riff on "Missisippi Queen"? I know he wasn't tired of playin it yet.... | |

I'll have to check that out. He lost me when descended (imo) from his "Mountain" sound and went through his "Steinberger period"...

This is universally regarded as the greatest MC of all time by anyone who was there at the time, and this was his signature track, and his introduction to the world, and the samples from "Long Red (live)" form the very heart of the record. Now try to think how many times "Eric B Is President" has been sampled, you will drive yourself crazy it's probably not possible. And every beat on that track is from "Long Red (live)." The other really obvious classic hip-hop track that sampled Long Red (live) is "It's My Thing" by EPMD. There have been many others. There are shouts and stabs and drums fills any 80s hip-hop head will instantly know on the Mountain link below.
