New Edition. I will say that Troop had great choreography tho. NE just seemed to be more polished, had better ballads and they were quite handsome. Troop got hit with the ugly stick a little too hard.

oooh , got a thread idea. hmmm

falloff

New Edition does look better than Troop as a whole, but back in the day New Edition got hit with the ugly stick a little too hard too. The only one who was cute during The Candy Girl era was Ralph Tresvant.

On the original question-NE all day every day. For me, Can You Stand the rain alone bests anything Troop recorded. And I find they have a greater catalouge, while Troop has just a few cuts.

As for the BIIMen issue, their big songs didn't stand the test of time for me, and now seem a little corny. BUT I think Motown Philly is classic 90s r&b, particularly Please Don't Go, This is my heart, Uhh Ahh, and Your Love. I still play that album on the regular. Oh, and Christmas Interpretations is a fave for the holidays.

Love them both!

Music: New Edition (for longevity)
Choreography: Troop
Harmonies: Troop
MJ Impersonation: Troop's "All I Do Is Think of You" over N.E.'s "Candy Girl"
Covers: Troop's "All I Do Is Think of You" and "Sweet November" over N.E.'s "Earth Angel" and "Blue Moon"
Personalities: New Edition

Musically, it's a tough call. New Edition had more good songs because they were together longer, but I don't think they had a song as great as "Spread My Wings."

I can dig it!!!!! NE didn't have any GREAT songs UNTIL Jam & Lewis came into the picture. Sure- "Cool It Now" "Mr. Telephone Man" and "Candy Girl" were aiiight, but not on the level of "Can You Stand The Rain" or "Boys To Men".
Same can be said 4 Troop- Chuckii Booker was the main producer/writer behind all those early hits, but after HE was out the picture.....
cool cool cool cool cool

Troop...Spread My Wings was my song.

But I must say I identify with NE much more. I'm still a fan. Maybe because I know their story and have been a fan since the age of 8. New Edition also had great success when they branched off.

I like both group. But I vote for New Edition. Without them OR The Jacksons, there is no Troop, Hi-Five, New Kids On The Block, Boyz II Men AND Jodeci.

Or N'Sync, Too Bad To Be True.Backstreet Boys, Mista, The Boys, Shai, Portrait, UNV, POV,The Fam-lee, Immature/IMX, Imajin. NToon,B5, B2K, Day26, 112, Jagged Edge, Dru Hill. A Few Good Men, Goodfellaz. Highland Place Mobsters, Guy, Men Of Vizion, Another Bad Creation, Perfect Gentlemen

and we can't forget After 7.

Ummm...if that's fat, I don't want to see your definition of slender or skinny. I saw New Edition two or three years ago, and he's nowhere close to that.

Oh and New Edition all the way! I like a handful of Troop songs tho.

C'mon! That may have been a valid comparison for like 2 weeks during the late 80's. Outside of Spread My Wings, Troops best songs were covers. They do get points for outdoing MJ on "All I do..." though.

In terms of crossover popularity Boyz II Men were bigger but New Edition was the super group. The fact we even know Ronnie Devoe's name is a testament to that. biggrin I can't remember anybody's name from BIIM except Wanya and I'll take y'alls word for it that there's a Steve in Troop. lol

Just think who would be missed more if they hadn't been around. Hell, didn't Bivins put Boys II Men on in the first place?

On a side note, TTT and Mint Condition don't belong in that category since they're bands not singing groups.

I should mention that Troop definitely had the edge in the singing department.
