jimmy jam and terry lewis as musicians

we all know that jimmy jam and terry are great producers.
but what about their musician side?

terry lewis sounds like good in the pocket bass player,
what about jimmy jam?
i never knew who played what on time live peformances.
keyboard lines by monte and jimmy i couldnt notice a diffrence.
jimmy and terry play on the songs they produce right?
please discuss and point to the songs where i can hear their "minneapolis sound"

Don't get it twisted. Jimmy and Terry are tight. Years ago I heard the 80's demos that they did for The Human League and Janet and they were killin' it. It was just those 2 playing tunes w/ no vocals.

Jimmy can program and play layers of cool synth chords and Terry can hold his own on bass and rhythm guitar. Definetly underrated in The Time.

(i wonder if this song was an outtake from "the time" days... but one of the keys 2 the j&l sound circa 84'-89', is jam's touch on the synthesizer along with terry's bass...)

no one's gonna love you-sos band

(right before the band kicks in you can hear a "swipe" on the keys, and that my friend is Jimmy Jam's signature. u can also hear that "swipe" all over Human League's Crash S.O.S Band's Sands of Time and Janet's Control and Rhythm Nation albums)

everything i miss at home-cherelle

(now when it came to ballads these guys had the touch. and that said touch was the way on this song, how Jam could start off with a sweet intro and then have the damn synth blend behind and around it like it was background vocal)

Terry and Jimmy are great. A kewl clip to find is when they performed with Angel Grant on BET.
