When I 1st heard this song it was at a club on GTA Vice City! lol I "Automatically" fell in love with it. I thought it was a man singing at 1st but then my mom cleared that up for me. surviving on the thought of loving you, it's just like the water

I love this track, In fact I like most of the songs they released as singles.

One of the best songs of the 1980's IMO. Everything is perfect. Verses, Bridge, Chorus. They're all so darn infectious. Even though its from the early 1980's it's aged very well. | |

NO REMAKE is worse than Madonna's "I Want You". I really loathe Madonna's cover -- seriously, the layered harmonies and the funky guitar make the song, so why take them out? -- but I at least can appreciate what she tried to do. Changing the tempo, making it seem more cold and isolated -- I don't think she succeeded, but I recognize the intent to do something interesting. This is just taking a cool song and trying to "update" it by making it bland and uninteresting. Now I'm waiting for someone to remake "Take On Me" and remove the "take ON me" parts from the chorus. This is a kickass song. I remember dancing and singing to it when it was out when I was a little kid. It brings back great memories.  I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that | |

I just found this out about Richard Perry, who produced the album containing that song: Pointer Sisters - Break Out (1984) By now (Richard) Perry had been listening to Prince's 1999 over and over, and this album is overflowing with the Minneapolis sound: electronic percussion and synth bass rule; there's a ballad ("Easy Persuasion") with drum programming lifted from "Lady Cab Driver"; there's even a song title borrowed ("Automatic"). Not surprisingly, this was a huge hit, their biggest ever: it went Top Ten and platinum. The three Top Ten singles were "Jump" - catchy if repetitious uptempo pop - plus the frantic "Neutron Dance" and the slower "Automatic" with exceptionally deep vocals on the bridge. The good news is that the vocals are considerably more prominent and intense than on the previous release. Completely derivative, and a footnote historically, but not unenjoyable.
