George Michael: Golden Soul

Hey,

as aHUGE GM fan I think people should talk more about him. For a start: Do you know the songs he wrote for others? I'd like to upload them on youtube, but I was too stupid. Maybe someone of you could help me?

Anyway, he wrote not much for others, but some rarities are quite intersting.

First of all he wrote Golden Soul (1983) for the group Zapp. (I have the Boogie Box High version only...)

It's really a mixture of the Fantastic and Make It Big style.

I like to think it's an Fantastic outtake. Would be cool because there were four songs recorded for it that got scrapped. Probably Blue and Golden Soul??

Then he wrote with David Austin "Turn To Gold" and "Are You Just Using Me". Both songs are quite okay.

Then there was Learn To Say No with Jodey Watley in 1987. The same year a Swedish band released Let's Make Sunshine.

This could have been a Wham! song. But it was written exclusively for this band.

In 1986 he wrote Heaven Help Me for Deon Estus, but it was released three years.
later.

Just imagine how a third Wham! album COULD have looked like!

The Edge Of Heaven
Battlestations
I'm Your Man
A Different Corner
Blue (Armed With Love)
Where Did Your Heart Go

and two others. Did you know he wrote Kissing A Fool in 1985? He also wrote a funky track called The Colour Of LOve. This album would have been pretty good, right?

Anyway, in the 90s he gave away an intersting track called How Many Hearts (Does A Married Man Need)? which has a lush feel, and reminds a bit of Soul Free. It's not as funky but the beat is the same and the synth line...

Someday for Pepsie & Shirlie sounds a bit Wham!ish.

GM is my favorite songwriter. So I really hope one day some tracks will leak. Apparently some fans have the complete LWP Vol 2 album (although there was never a official tracklist). I mean, I love Vol.1 and Vol.2 could have been cool as well.

Too Funky
Killer
Do You Really Want To Know
Crazyman Dance
Happy

some other songs we know are Pieces, Night & Day and Disco.

What's Gave It All Away???

Golden Soul is not a great song. If it was written for Fantastic it dersevedly was not put on it!
In an interview from 1983 Andy talks about the recordings and how scrapped 4 completely recorded original songs because he didn't feel happy with them.

Blue was probably really written in early 1983 (I mean, it was the B-side of Club Tropicana), but it was not ready yet.

If you listen to the instrumental mix you can hear how similiar it sounds to Nothing looks The Same In The Light in terms of production.

In fact it seems to me, as if most of the songs were written around a bassline. They all have very simple chords as well.

Are you sure it was written by GM? Is there any prove to it? Do you have the original booklet? I read alot about GMs songs's for others but never read he wrote this song.

I'm not sure but it's probably him on backing vocals
