Beyonce: We’re NOT The Jacksons

Beyonce is talking about her family upbringing and why the Knowles are NOT the Jacksons in the new OK! magazine:

“I grew up upper-class. Private school. My dad had a Jaguar,” she recalls. “We’re African-American and we work together as a family, so people assume we’re like the Jacksons. But I didn’t have parents using me to get out of a bad situation

This explains why her songwriting has no depth. She was brought up with a privileged life and continues to have one. I would love to see Beyonce do like Rick James did with Street Songs. Go live in the streets, have some real-life experiences and write some truly meaningful songs.

Never say NEVER.

I would challenge her to hang out with her family members (outside of her parents and sister....people like distant cousins and grandparents) and talk to them about real life experiences.

I wouldn't consider her to be "bubble gum". I consider her to be musically immature. Though, I think she has grown, she still sounds immature. Maybe by the time she hits 30, she'll grow up even more. Being married tends to help with that.

Being born middle-class doesn't explain the lack of intelligence, depth or perception in her song-writing any more than being born poor gives another songwriter those qualities. shake

Being born middle-class merely helps her to package her vacuousness in a more commercially attractive manner. nod

That's true. Her words might become more meaningful through tough living, and it might cause her to struggle harder to communicate more successfully with music, but I'd still argue that it'll never turn her into a great songwriter.

Although perhaps she'd be better at finding and collaborating with people who are.

I can understand she wants to make the distinction between herself and the Jacksons clear. I can also understand the love and gratitude she has for her parents.

BUT, come on....

If she doesn't think her father quit his 6 figure job because he saw a bigger paycheck in her, she's fooling herself.

He worked that girl like a slave in preparation for this career he was just "helping" her have.

My child talks about music and being in a band from time to time, but I'll be darned if I'll make it my goal to see it happen. He'll finish school, go to college, and then rock out on his own dime--cause I'm NOT the one to guide or push him in that direction.

My child also attends private school, gets chauffered in a luxury car, travels the world, and lives in a big house..BUT...

HE'D BET NOT NEVA say anything bad about the Jacksons!

And I mean that!

By the way, Ms. B doesn't know the difference between upper and middle class.

Having a mama own a "HURR SALON" (that is soooo NOT upperclass) and Daddy working for "da man" does not make her upper class. The fact that they needed those TWO INCOMES to make that private school and Jaq happen also says a lot.

I wonder how much he was paying each month on that car.Black people will buy stuff they can't afford in a heartbeat--just to say they got it.

My child's smart enough to realize he's lucky to be in the MIDDLE CLASS. Then, again, he's seen "upper", so he knows what it looks like.

And that private school she attended needs to be shut down if her intellect is the best they can produce. It's a good thing she's pretty and can sing.

But she leaves out the fact that her father "eliminated" everything around her with money, for her to make it. Plain and simple. I really wish AMERIE would spill the truth that everyone knows, but she is too damn classy to get to that level and becuase if she did it, the media would spin it against her. But Beyonce left alot of FACTS out of this interview, about how she got HERE!
