"Video Soul" Countdown - The Top 20 R&B Songs This Week in 1990 (Nov. 24, 1990)

20. Harlem Blues - Cynda Williams

(This is from the movie, not the video)

19. Livin' in the Light - Caron Wheeler

18. Try Me - Jasmine Guy

(YouTube doesn't have the video)

17. Soul Inspiration - Anita Baker

16. Love Me Down - Freddie Jackson

(YouTube doesn't have the video)

15. It Never Rains (In Southern California) - Tony! Toni! Toné!

14. I Got the Feeling - Today

13. Wanna Get With U - Guy

(The original video can't be embedded, so this is the remix)

12. I Just Can't Handle It - Hi-Five

11. Rope a Dope Style - LeVert

10. My Heart, Your Heart - The Whispers

9. Sensitivity - Ralph Tresvant

(I prefer the original version, but all the videos sound like crap. This is the Extended Club Remix)

8. Round and Round - Tevin Campbell

7. Pray - M.C. Hammer

6. Love Takes Time - Mariah Carey

(Live because the video can't be embedded)

5. Knockin' Boots - Candyman

4. I'm Your Baby Tonight - Whitney Houston

(Live from "Welcome Home Heroes" because the video can't be embedded)

3. Slow Motion - Gerald Alston

2. Bell Biv DeVoe - B.B.D. (I Thought It Was Me)?

1. Missunderstanding - Al B. Sure!

"Missunderstanding" knocked B.B.D. out of the #1 spot after one week. The next week, Whitney Houston vaulted to the top spot and spent 2 weeks there. Anybody else remember all of these? I had loved music for a while, but 1990 was the year it first became an obsession for me. I was a little over a month shy of my 13th birthday at this point. Good times, good times...

Rest in Peace Gerald LeVert, Sean LeVert, and Tony Thompson.

Oh I totally agree! This was the best of Tony! Toni! Toné!

There were the best of the boys groups in the 90's. I loved the fact that they could write and play instruments.

I loved their different style of music and fashion. they were THE BEST!!!

There isn't one song I don't like (at least on some level), but these are my favorites:

Wanna Get With U - Guy
I Just Can't Handle It - Hi-Five
I Got the Feeling - Today
It Never Rains (In Southern California) - Tony! Toni! Toné!
Sensitivity - Ralph Tresvant
I'm Your Baby Tonight - Whitney Houston
B.B.D. (I Thought It Was Me)? - Bell Biv DeVoe
Missunderstanding - Al B. Sure!
Round and Round - Tevin Campbell

I've always had a strange attraction to "Rope a Dope Style" that I can't really explain.

18. Try Me - Jasmine Guy
8. Round and Round - Tevin Campbell
7. Pray - M.C. Hammer

These are the only ones I like from that list and they ain't even that strong. There was a lot of great music that year but it was mainly played in the gay clubs and most of it didn't make the mainstream. We were listening to much harder jams like Black Box and Jomanda.
Andy is a four letter word.

That's the original version and here's its video:

This is the remix (with extra keys and sans C.L. Smooth):

"Rub You the Right Way" hit #1 in May of 1990. It was Johnny's first #1 as a solo artist (although he reached the top a year earlier with Stacy Lattisaw on "Where Do We Go From Here"). This album's second and fourth singles ("My, My, My" and "Wrap My Body Tight") also hit #1, with the third single "Fairweather Friend" just missing. "Rub You the Right Way" remains his biggest pop hit, peaking at #3.

Yah,
I get your drift... I am comparing them to the other bands on this list, Today, Bell Biv Deboe, Hifive, who were "boy bands" and the 3 T's were in the same age group and all males... hence a 'boys band" but at the same time, very very different than the others. I placed them in the same category to show the glaring difference between the 3 T's and all the others.

Sort of like comparing Prince to any of the "pop stars" of the 80's. Prince was never a mere "pop star" and to compare him to a pop star of the 80's would be the best way to demonstrate how much Prince was in a league of his own. Same with the 3 T's
