Janet has left Island Def Jam...Updated

In a new vlog on Rap-Up.com, "Feedback" producer Rodney Jerkins revealed that Janet has left her record label Island Def Jam after requesting to be released from her contract.

"We felt like we made a great record with the record 'Feedback.' We felt like we made a great record with a song called 'Luv' that was supposed to be the second single, but we just feel like we didn't get the support from the record company. She felt like it wasn't pushed, I felt like it wasn't pushed correctly," he said in the interview. "She was asking to be released and got released."

He continued, "I have a great relationship established with her now. I told her, 'Whatever you need, whatever type of record you make, I'm here.' I would love to do another album with her, I've expressed that to her, where I could make an album with her - possibly me, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis."

He went on to say that Janet is not considering looking for another record deal until after the tour is over.

UPDATE: Billboard.com also now has an article about Janet's departure from IDJ, which includes the same statement that was released to People Magazine a short time ago, however the statement in this article includes this extra sentence:

"Always known to break new ground and set trends, Janet's departure from Island makes her one of the first superstar artists to have the individual freedom to promote their work through a variety of avenues such as iTunes, mobile carriers and other diverse and innovative channels."

The Billboard.com reporter then goes on to speculate that Janet could possibly sign a deal with Live Nation Artists:

Moving forward, Jackson would seem to be a natural fit at Live Nation Artists, which is already home to Jay-Z, Nickelback and Shakira. A Live Nation spokesperson was unavailable for comment on the subject.

When Janet finishes her tour, she will need to sit down and re-evaluate things. She thinks 'Discipline' flopped because of poor promotion, but that's not the only reason.

Again, when she left Virgin we were like "BYE!!!!!".

Until she stops letting JD drive her career into the proverbial ditch, this will continue to happen.

I think its funny how Rodney Jerkins decides now that he will include JJ and TL if he and janet were to work again. I wonder who's idea it was to leave them out.

also, i think she's going in the right direction with not looking for another record deal. her money now is in touring, add in some new music and she'll be alright.

Janet has had her time. She should just rely on tours. And was Jermaine really any good for her, or him? That is the question. Jermain gets dropped, then janet leaves. Wow.

JD was trying market it her as an Urban Act when she's always been pop.

I think it's not only the record label. Janet doesn't succeed in gaining a new audience. Most of her fans love her sicne the 80s or 90s or are either Michael fans or both.

But fans, be honest: Do you think young people care about her? and this tour is really awful for people who dislike her, like me. When I watch as a non fan on picures of Madonna#s show I'd say: Mmmh... she's got a great body.

But Janet looks like a sausage in those awful customes!!!

do you really mean to say that? at least janet reflects normal weight and looks like an average woman, and good too. but ofcourse, in this society the skinnier one always wins out.

yeah I mean that. Being a popstar and dancing on stage has nothing to do with being "normal". Popstars, or stars who put on a show that depends on the visual side, should look heavenly.

Don't get me wrong. If she was an excellent musician like Stevie Wonder, I wuldnt care about her legs.

But she tries to be sexy and she gotta cope with the fact that some hink she's too chubby.

Or as Michael used to say: She lookslike a donkey!

Well, she followed Jermaine into Island in the first place, so it's hardly a surprise she's following him out of there too. Janet's always been led by men.

Janet is a gigantic fat pig! She needs to lose, like, 60 pounds or something! Fat bitch!

I am shocked the fat bitch can even lift her leg up off the ground and take a step!

Ring the alarm! This bitch puts the ass in massive.

Her weight is in the normal range for her height and age, but those outfits are just so unflattering!

She could look really good, but she needs to wear stuff that accents her boobs and legs, and draws attention away from her tummy and backside. Instead, these outfits (especially the jumpsuit) do the exact opposite: Her breasts are flattened against her chest, and the eye is drawn to the stomach are with that belt (which disguises nothing).

I can't wait to hear more janet and rodney jerkins collaborations in the future, I think they worked really well together on Discipline, which in my opinion is her best record in years.

I've really been concern why people spew their most racist and sexist vile for Janet Jackson who in retrospect hasn't really done anything to anybody. You can complain about the Superbowl incident but from what I've read and seen it's people's insecurities about a black woman's sexuality, not necessarily the black woman herself.

It's comments like that which is reason why we have so many black girls have colorism issues and weight gain/lost problems b/c they don't act or look like the ideal conservative (yet a freak in the covers for men) and preferably light skin black woman (no offense to light skin women b/c you do get a lot of grief). Congratulation, consider yourself part of the ongoing problem.

wow, hadn't thought of it that way. I wouldn't let that happen to my career. She should really get her some backbone. How tall is she anyway?

I've noticed that Jermaine Dupri drops out of everything and she follows next as well. He quit something after the superbowl in protest of Janet, and then the next thing we know, she was being blacklisted. She left Virgin shortly after JD did, and now the same thing with Def Jam. Nothing is wrong with her new music, but she just doesn't have good luck with him. I wonder if them being together has killed her image too among other things.
