Happy 59th to Mr. Rick Springfield

Born August 23rd 1949, Richard Lewis Springthorpe, in austraila. Most remember Rick for his hits in the 80's but many dont realize that Rick has been in the music business since 1967 and had his first solo album in 1972 and first top20 hit that same year. Things exploded in 1981 when "jessie's girl" topped the chart and Rick beat out Bruce Springsteen for the Rock Male grammy, Rick followed Jessies Girl with 16 straight top 40 hits and 4 multi-platnum albums between 1981-1985. Rick was on fire during those "honeymoon years" (for those who dont know, honeymoon years are the years an artist has when they do NO wrong in the mainstreams eyes), Rick was in a class with Madonna,Prince,Lionel and Michael during those days, Rick was so hot that he was charting B SIDES! and not only that, songs from un-released albums were coming out and going into the top 40, this was the 1984 hit "Bruce" from a 1978 album not released, it was about being mistaken for "bruce springsteen" because of their names.

Well after 1988 rick took 10 years off!! this was due to him just breaking down from the constant pressures of fame, but also to raise his children and to recover from a 1988 ATV accident that kept him laid for almost a year. Rick returned to recording in 1996 under the group "Sahara Snow" and then in 1998 he released KARMA, and he was back and hasnt stopped. Literally has not stopped, touring and recording.

This past July he released his best work in "Venus in Overdrive" it blew his fans away and the shock got him a Number 28 debut, his first top 40 entry in 20 years. Not bad for a 59 year old who still looks like someone half his age, and still rocks harder than any NEW JACK out there. Rick is once again on tour, doing it in a way that keeps all the shows fresh, he tours for 3 days, flies home to be with his wife and kids, and then goes back and does another couple of shows, hes been doing this pretty much every year since his return.

Age aint nothing but a number, I think is a term better for Rick Springfield.

"We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F
