Ry Cooder - 3 Cool Cats
I like the album he did with Ali Farka Toure That's become one of my favorite "international albums". Ok tune. I like the story line.

Talking Timbuktu. Haven't heard it, but I'll check it out. I'm quite new to Cooder, so I might as well start there! Thanks!

Nicole Willis and the Soul Investigators - No one's gonna love you. Undeniable. If she were singing this to me I'd have to go out and find a 2 carat engagment ring. razz sounds like it could have came straight out of the 60's the Soul Investigators really did their homework on this one. magnify

lol Well, honestly, she doesn't even have to sing. I'm easy like that: eek

mushy

Jimmy McGriff - Miss Poopie
I kept getting confused whenever listening to this track. I keep thinking Jimmy Smith. lol Anyways, nice funky tune! What's up with the title, though? Yeah, what blasphmeous soul don't like the B-3?

The title indeed. Some funkateers must have been real gone when naming their songs. The meters: - Sissy strut, -cabbage alley. Say what?

Ryuichi Sakamoto - Tango I've heard this name much and seen it almost too much not to have heard anything by him. Thanks for the introduction, I like the spanish/european vibe. Not sure if this is representive of his style. Didn't Jill Jones do a track with him back in the day?

See Sexton. Yeah:
I wouldn't have highlighted this track though... lol

Love that people have had some interest for Ryuichi but never got around to it and I got the chance to introduce one track to you all! mushy

Ibrahim Ferrer - Copla Guarija I've head about this documentary and album for this longest but never took the time to give it a listen. thanks for the reminder.

And again. Even if you didn't like the song, at least you got to hear something you had 'on your list'...

CéU - Ave Cruz Cool track. Reminds me of Zuco 103. surprised CeU hasn't hit my radar before hearing this track.

Huh? Zuco 103? They're a dutch band. I figured they were only known here in Holland. Wow. Where are you from Mag.Synth? I actually thought about including a Zuco track. Funny.

RL Burnside - Hard Time Killin' Floor Blues
I love some R.L.! Great song! I miss him. I'm always in Chicago, but man, can't be that much rougher than some parts of the south.sad
My favorite by him is Come On In. Loved that album and how they mixed two totally genres with that album.

Another tip, thank you! That heaven album is the only one I have and know of RL. So a straight blues album might be very interesting.

Funny story: I have a friend who was living in Mississipi in the late 90's early 2000's and was visiting us up north. I was playing some of R.L.'s stuff and he inquired. I told him and he replied "I have a neighbor with that name he's a musician too, his grandson also plays drums with him". eek I showed him the CD and he was like "yeah that's him" showed him the picture of his son on the disc "yeah, that's (I forget his name), we hang out all the time. We barbeque together a lot." neutral

Weird. Thanks for the story!

Heyhey!

I just read this:
This is the first mix I have made in about 3 years. For mostly ridiculous reasons, I haven't had a burner and lost my mixing program.

So, I'm guessing you're back in the game, full swing! Churning out mixtapes as if your life depends on it! biggrin

No. Still no burner and no mixing program! mad This project goes completely against my grain in that I almost always (like 95%) blend songs together so the fact that couldn't happen in this project VEXED THE CRAP OUT OF ME! lol But as I listened to it it really wasn't a problem as it really wouldn't have made sense to try and force the blending of such diverse songs. Amazing that I was able to put anything together considering the circumstance lol

And yes, I did blend the "Midnight" mix that I sent you nod Do you think I did a good job with that?

So I see on your profile. So you probably knew that song. Since I only know his Merry Christmas and this Smoochy album, can you recommend me an album that's similar?

Actually, on these two releases--- one in the studio, the other live - Sakamoto , cellist Jaques Morelenbaum, and his wife, singer Paula Morelenbaum focus on Brazil, primarily on the works of Antonio Carlos Jobim...beautiful recordings and the feel is similar to Tango, IMO.....

...

Ooh, I love that Casa CD! No matter what I'm currently into, I can always come back to it. Nice morning music. Good on airplanes, too.
