Hazel Scott - "Foggy Day" & "Autumn Leaves"

With Charlie Mingus on bass and Rudy Nichols on drums. Anyone can appreciate it, but this one's especially for Aisha (who, I'm sure, has seen this already). biggrin

Nice find!

Here's Ms Scott showing a bit of her stride chops...

...The video stops but the audio repeats.

Very nice! I love how singers used their voices during that era. Very strong.

Harlepolis

I'm still waiting for a decent biopic to portray her career justice(Vanessa Williams didn't, as much as I love her).

I'm waiting for this book..

I'm a hopeless sucka for black female pianists of the 30s/40s(mainly coz they really didn't get their praise).

She recorded with Mingus and Roach in this album(during the same period that clip was broadcasted I believe).

She was really a big deal back in her heyday(Married to Adam Clayton Powell Jr., Activist against racism and the 1st black woman to have her TV show). But sadly, ALL of that went to waste during the McArthur era when she got accused of being "openly communist".

Are you into Mary Lou Williams? She's one of my favorites.
