Deneice Williams = underrated

Deneice Williams, AKA, Neicy, is one of the most underrated r&b female singers of our lifetime. I was listening to her greatest hits compilation and I was watching one of VH1's Soul documentaries and I was just wondering why is her name never mentioned as one of the greats? You never see her on any award show doing tributes or singing with other past stars. Its almost like she's dissapered and people have forgoten about her. You always see Glady's, Patti, Natalie Cole, Tina Marie, just to name a few.

Maybe its because she started doing gospel music, like Stephanie Mills? Who knows, but I still dont understand why her name is never mentioned or talked about. A lot of people just know her from her #1 Pop single, Let's Hear It For The Boy, but she has has had many hits on the r&b charts including, Free, Silly, and It's Gonna Take a Miracle scanning over almost two decades.

Peep Bio = http://www.soultracks.com...lliams.htm

Am I the only one who thinks she's underrated? Let me know if I'm tripping but damn, it doesnt make any sense why shes never mentioned or seen at all of these awards shows where they do tributes and so forth.

VH1, BET, please do something on this lady, its well deserved and overdue...

She certainly gets lots of love at prince.org. Speaking on vocals alone, she's probably my favorite female R&B singer. Untouchable if you ask me.

Deniece Williams is one of my favorites.I've seen her in concert several times and she always puts on an incredible show. She usually opens with an acappella version of "God Is Amazing" that you will give you chills!

Every time her name comes up, I wonder what bastard stole her greatest hits CD from my house when they were visiting.
Andy is a four letter word.

Deniece Williams is SO underrated i put her up there in the ranks of Minnie Riperton....Her voice is so angelic and rich.....She does so many things with her voice that its amazing, If you've ever got a chance to see her LIVE....DO IT!!!!! I feel she don't get her due like Gladys,Patti,Chaka,Whitney & a few others.

I love Niecy. She is very underrated and has one of the most unique voices in R&B, IMO.

my fav song of hers
is possibly "The Paper"
like to hear it? here it go!

she is one of those artists
that I love (i.e. Aretha, Natalie)
that was just TOO FIERCE for words
in the 70's... but when the 80's came in
it was hit or miss...

I won't even go near the 80's Natalie/Ree stuff
I fucked around and bought this once:

possibly the worst album
I have ever heard in my life
it was just HORRIBLE
"be who you are and say what you feel
because those who mind don't matter
and those who matter don't mind."

Her early 80s albums are great wink The ones produced by Thom Bell. Also,in the 80s she recorded one of her strongest singles: "Black Butterfly" which is just gorgeous music

When I first heard my mom play Cause you Love Me Baby on a 45..I fell in love!!!

That song is so soulful and funky. Maurice White did a damn good job with her. She should have continued to work with the brotha.
Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

I don't think she is underrated, she just quit making quality music around 1984-85, after "Black Butterfly."

She got over on the charts with "Let's Hear It For The Boy" but disgraced her legacy in the process.

"Black Butterfly" was her last great single.I just love it music

Have you noticed that, when many R&B artists have a major pop hit,it can sometimes hurt them in the long run? Look what happened to Ray Parker Jr. after "Ghostbusters"? His career went downhill after that smash. After Chaka Khan had a major pop hit with "I Feel For You",it seems that her career eventually suffered too.Deniece didn't have too many hits after "Let's Hear It For The Boy".Pop success can be a blessing and a curse for R&B artists.
