"Feed the Birds" always makes me cry. That melody is just sooooo damn sad and beautiful. And I hum "Chim Chim Chee-Ree" when I'm sad. Always cheers me up.

Those two and Poor Unfortunate Soul from the Little Mermaid make up my Top 3. Ursula is such a badass.

OMG! Me too. I feel like such a dork when it happens, but I just can't help it. That song always gets to me.

I'm an easy crier though.

Easily "Someday My Prince Will Come," but not the Disney version. Jazz pianist Bill Evans used to play the hell outta that song!

A Whole New World.

"...Unbelievable sights, indescribable feelings
Soaring, tumbling, free wheeling
Through an endless diamond sky..."

The songwriting team for the Golden Era of Second Renaissance Disney Films during the early- to mid-'90s did a remarkable job on the lyrics and compositions. I dare say that a lot of the tunes from Little Mermaid through The Lion King rivaled anything by Rodgers & Hammerstein.

Beautifully crafted, classic songs.

Iam not a big fan of that song. Its fine and all, and has a great urgency about it, but theres more enjoyable songs from the other second renaissance of disney films I much prefer.

People often assume it was Disney that started the Andrew Lloyd Webber approach to songs in the late 80's-early 90's, but it was this song/film that started it , by an ex disney animator no less.

So hard to resist such a pretty song, no matter how corny LOL.

Hey, thesexofit! wave You took me back to age 4 with this clip.

I had this on VHS back in 1987?? '88? I think Oliver & Company came out after this film. The Land Before Time. Bravest Little Toaster -- all of that.

Now sex, remember "Chipmunk Adventure" the movie? THAT HAD SOME SONGS NOW. Ummm, "Diamond Dolls," "Boys & Girls of Rock and Roll," "A Mother" -- I used to watch that religiously on the Disney Channel.

Hey mara, good to see you back on here.

And yeah, ur right with the films that came out after this. I was too young to see this movies in the cimema (born in 85), but thanks to older brothers and sisters, I grew up with an american tale, land before time etc...

Oddly, "oliver and co" was not released to vhs until the mid 90's. Its a shame as it perfectly captures how contemporary and 80's disney were trying to be. Very much a movie of its time. I love that movie.

Chipmunk movie? I dont think I have seen that. I bet its hard to track down now. I remember my sister watching her awful care bear movies. I saw one quite recently on a cartoon channel. Christ those cartoons sure were innocent and colourful. As awful as they were, I found it quite charming in a bizarre way.

"felix the cat: the movie" was off its head. That even had songs in it. Its obscure as hell now, but well worth picking up. Seriously crazy movie for a kids film

Wow, I've seen all of the movies you mentioned. An American Tail was a childhood favorite of mine. It parallels with the 1982 film The Secret of NIHM.

I do remember seeing Oliver & Co. in theaters when it was released back in the late '80s. That's one of the few scant memories I have of that decade because I was just barely out of diapers.

There were a gajillion kids films in the late 80s.

Chipmunk Adventure clips are all over YouTube if you run a search. I'll track some down for you.

Some geek put felix the cat the movie up aswell LOL

http://www.youtube.com/wa...B3TQvMwpZ8

They shoulda done a muppets babies movie. That cartoon had alot of great imagination

Yeah, "secret of nihm" was made by the same people as "an american tale. Bluth also made "land before time" "all dogs go to heaven" etc...

"all dogs go to heaven" is still to this day, one of my all time fav movies.

Still not all those movies with shitloads of songs were good. "tom and jerry: the movie" was blasphemy.

I miss handrawn animation. Its probably because I grew up on it. CGI lacks that warmth those handrawn cartoons had, particually the old ones, and the 2nd golden era disney had..

Iam a huge western animation geek LOL

highfive I love that damn movie! The songs were great, especially "Boys & Girls of Rock and Roll" ("you better believe it, yeah, yeah, yeah!"). woot! To this day, whenever someone mentions Theodore, I think of him as a little butterball. lol

Yeah, warmth is a good connotation. There was something so warm about those '80s animated films you mentioned. It impressed me to see what animators could achieve with just their hands.

Not to slight the Pixar generation of animation 'cause people are feeling it (and yes, I'm not a little kid these days so I'm biased) but it's just not warm or organic to me.
