Black Nasty ..."Talking to the People". (1973) Interesting band history here. Taking a Funk/Soul/Rock approach, early incarnations of the band included guitarists James "Blood" Ulmer & Motor City Madman Ted Nugent. The album "Talking To The People" was co-produced by Detroit Soul legends Johnnie Mae Matthews & Sir Mack Rice Sir Mack Rice? - Mustang Sally (writer) Johnnie Mae Matthews? - CHECK IT OUT A few different rolls of the dice and turns of a card and her name might've been in place of (or at least right along side of) Berry Gordy's. Black Nasty featured 2 of Johnnie Mae Matthews' children. Artwell Matthews Jr. on drums and Audrey Matthews on vocals Not a great album, just one of those interesting musical side roads. This group eventually morphed into... ...The ADC Band tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Gave them both a brief listen (sitting in my office and trying hard not to annoy my colleagues )....
No, not great....but a good pedigree, for sure....I would like to give it a better chance....any other clips? "Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive."

I really just used them as an excuse to bring up Johnnie Mae Matthews. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Black Nasty --> The Nazty --> General Assistance & The ADC Band --> The ADC Band
I have 'Talking To The People' (Black Nasty), 'I Got To Move' (The Nazty) and 3-4 albums they released as the ADC Band It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

Interesting sound on that song. I hadn't heard of them before, but I like the tune. Reminds me some of earlier Funkadelic, and I can hear stuff like Cold Blood in there, too.
On a related note, I'm a big fan of that Vinyl Morpher youtube account. He's got a lot of good stuff up.

On a related note, I'm a big fan of that Vinyl Morpher youtube account. He's got a lot of good stuff up. Their name came up in a conversation I was having with a friend about the Detroit music scene. I thought the band transition along with the Johnnie Mae Matthews/James Blood Ulmer/Ted Nugent connections made an interesting story. Regarding Vinyl Morpher, I agree. I'm going to be using something else he's posted later today. I've also got a technical question for him. Thanks for the memory jog. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."
