Well, a lot of people consider Bad Girls her best album if that means anything to you. She has 583 greatest hits sets. Go for BG.

I'm not sure whether to get a greatest hits or the albums either, but I think starting with a greatest hits would be best as long as it has all the songs of hers that I do like.

I'm eventually going to get Crayons. Though I'm not crazy about I'm a Fire, I love the Queen is Back and the title track so much.

If you buy her greatest hits and then her studio albums, make sure you buy them in release order. It's kind of a fun progression.

Are you talking about the 1977 "Greatest Hits" album...I think that album is rare and I know I paid a hellvu lot more than 50 cents for it (not much, but $8 for one LP isn't cheap especailly since I have most of those songs on more than one CD, but "Virgin Mary" is a track that is not easy to track down, so buy it!). I would buy them for that much just for the artwork!

And just because you don't like disco doesn't mean you won't like those albums. There are several pre-disco pop tracks on the "Greatest Hits" album (and "Winter Melody" is soft R&B). "Bad Girls" is not strictly disco, either and has a whole very interesting ballads side.

***SIDEBAR***

hey isn't the "Mac Arthur Suite"
the song Wu-Tang (Tekitha)
borrowed from for "Second Coming"???
(found on Wu-Tang Forever)

"and I don't think the
world can take it
cause they took so long to make it
and the hip hop game will
never be the saaaaame..."

I know it's a song originally done by Donna Summer
"be who you are and say what you feel
because those who mind don't matter
and those who matter don't mind."

First of, 8$ albums are usually NOT rare lol
Secondly, 8$ is a bargain where I live. Sure, you guys get to buy albums for 50 cents, but that's not the case everywhere. The average album costs around 11-23$ here in Finland, so consider yourself lucky.

I think all those tracks are extended editions of the tracks (surprisingly, no "Love To Love You, Baby"...in fact, nothing pre "I Feel Love", making the second disc not all that different from the "12" Dance Collection" (although no oddball surprise like the fun and sexy soundtrack cut "With Your Love". Also noteworthy is the last track on the proper disc...It's "Bad Girls" but a demo version produced by Donna and very stripped down and funky.

Yes and obviously that puts it a step above most Donna Summer "Greatest Hits" sets (if it had been released in 1977 without those 2 cuts, who would care). I wonder how rare that one is.....do fans seek that one out a lot or do most of them have it and just count it among one of the many greatest hits sets, but unique for having those 2 cuts. I guess if it's selling for $8 it isn't all that rare...I remember just browsing at the Dylan section in a record store and assumed they would have a ton of his stuff at decent prices....only had one of his single albums and it was selling for $30!

Well, mostly the rarity of an album is somehow reflected in its sale price, so yes, if it's selling for 8$ it is most likely NOT rare. However, there are of course cases where the seller doesn't know the actual value of the record he/she is selling. For example, I bought Eddie Hazel's 'Game Dames And Guitar Thangs' for less than 10$. Currently, no one is offering 'Game Dames And Guitar Thangs' up for sale on ebay.com. There are two currently on sale at GEMM.com, one for 121.44$ and one for 269.10$. Now this is in fact a rare album wink

I wonder why they never use the "Heaven Knows" 12" version on these compilations confuse I have it on one of my disco compilations but I never see it on any of Donna's own compilations.I guess they figure since it's part of the "MacArthur Park Suite",there's no need to have it on there twice? But the 12" version is superior, imo.

same here nod It's her masterpiece.I love every song on it except for one ("My Baby Understands".....that song annoys me for some reason, lol).

One of the most underrated songs is "One Night In A Lifetime" music I rarely ever hear anyone mention this song.
