One of my favorites, from "Chalkmark In A Rainstorm" ... " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout

BTW, I remember Janet Jackson mentioning in an interview that this was her favorite Joni tune, and that Randy turned her onto Joni's music... ... " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout

Seriously, though I was pleasantly surprised when I read that. I guess it kinda makes sense that Randy was into her...personal problems aside, I've aways liked his musical sense... ... I really like this one too. I didn’t recognize it by title but as soon as I heard the opening I knew what it was. I don’t have this album tho. I think I have it on Hits & Misses. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

This song is timeless!
i've also had the suspicion that Prince is playing keyboards on this track. the reason being that Wendy & Lisa are doing backing vocals on Tea Leaf Prophecy and doesn't that synth just sound like a voice Prince would use? Plus that album is loaded with guess. Peter Gabriel Willie Nelson Billie Idol Wayne Shorter i forget the rest.

Great tune.
I wonder if the dreamy refrain of "Charlie/Johnny Angel" is a direct reference to the the idyllic All-American guy image (referred to in the 60's tune by Shelly Fabares), juxtaposed against the death (in various forms) being experienced by Killer Kyle. tA Tribal Disorder

You got it--That's it exactly: The generic image of the GI contrasted with the actual nghtmare of war and the feelings of loss he was experiencing... ... ...
The song came from an actual conversation Joni had in the late 60's with a Vietnam veteran. He was telling her about the things he experienced in contrast to the propaganda he was fed before going over there, and the idyllic image of life before his expereience...
