I personally can't see how, considering Atlantic Starr and Midnight Star had two totally different styles. During the Sharon Bryant years, Atlantic Starr had that sophisticated soul sound and during the Barbara Weathers period forward it was an adult contemporary/weak soul act. Midnight Star had that classic SOLAR sound (see The Whispers, Shalamar, Lakeside, etc.), known for their synthesizer-oriented dancefloor jams. | |

I didn't care for atlantic starr during that period although i'll admit i like silver shadow. They literally put my ass to sleep during one of their concerts in 1985.
They just happened to be on the bill with doug e. fresh, confunkshun, starpoint, and the barkays. Don't laugh at my funk

It is essential that everyone have a copy of No Parking on the Dancefloor (the album). It is one of the best albums of the 80s (to me). It is PERFECT!!! Every track is sheer perfection. Playmates is my JAM!!!

"Curious" is one of my favorite Midnight Star songs. Another one I love that hasn't been mentioned that came from the "No Parking on the Dancefloor" album is "Night Rider." | |

'No Parking On The Dancefloor' is essential.That's one of the best R&B albums of the 80s.No filler whatsoever....a strong,consistent album from beginning to end.Can you believe that "Electricity" never became a single,despite the heavy airplay it received? And I agree with you,"Playmates" is HOT! An underrated gem from that album.
A question: How come on some of the Midnight Star 'Best of' compilations,they use a lame remix of "Freak-A-Zoid"?  It's horrible! I'd rather they use the original album version or don't include it all. | |

I always get this group mixed up with Atlantic Star (typed my response before I scanned the comments to make sure I was talking about the right group ROTFL) but yeah... loved Midnight Star "Electricity" of course I still have the 45 for "Freak-A-Zoid" which caught fire in a shed fire back in the 90's the record is all bumpy (like a rollercoaster) nostalgia & sentiment just will not let me throw it away  because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." | |
