Ciara's New Album, "Fantasy Ride"

5/13/08
Link

R & B singer Ciara has slated her third album, "Fantasy Ride," for a September release via Jive. Rather than one standard CD, the music will be spread across three separately packaged discs, bundled together, each with five to six songs catering to a different theme.

The first disc is called "Groove City" and will contain sensual songs like "Promise," while the second disc is called "Crunktown" and includes tracks akin to Ciara's 2004 introductory single, "Goodies." Finally, the up-tempo "Kingdom of Dance" will showcase Ciara's house-leaning, freestyle-tinged cuts.

Producer Tricky Stewart, who crafted Rihanna's "Umbrella," is co-executive-producing the project along with Ciara. Danja is helming both "Crunktown" and "Kingdom of Dance," while "Groove City" is led by Tricky and Jasper.

An official single will drop in June, according to the label. Ciara's last album, 2006's "The Evolution," has sold 1.3 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The artist appears in the upcoming film "Mama I Want To Sing," co-starring Lynn Whitfield and Patti LaBelle, which hits theaters in October.

I heard the single and didn't care for it but I'll definitely be checking out the album.

Actually she sorta looks like Desiree Coleman in that pic.

I am surprised it did that well. It seemed like "Promise" was the only real single with any sort of push.

That would be great but sounds like a fucking pipe dream in this climate when nobody is buying CDs and Ciara is appealing to kids (although she might have lost them with the last one and won over those that doubted her....she did with me). It's not impossible and might be the kind of experiment that record companies will try in order to win over actual music buyers! Maybe they are listening to the people...Nah! It will probably be on CD that mostly appeals to kids! Maybe it will include some combination of all of those types of music, but will probably be mostly safe (since the last one was risky) and boiled down to a single CD.

I figured while she probably won over people that couldn't stand hearing the stuff from the first album with "Evolution" as a more laid back album, that audience was smaller and she might have lost the people that bought "Goodies"....This experiment might be an attempt to win both and others with the promise of freestyle tracks (I mean....80s freestyle...Damn!).

She already been on that uptempo "bass" tip via Lil Jon productions though which is strongly rooted in Freestyle. shrug

There are songs on Evolution that were Freestyle-esque.

She needs to get it together with that first single. High Price with Luda is an absolute MESS.

I understand Ciara needs a gimmick for this one, but what a stupid fucking idea - three discs with 5-6 songs each, all in the same style?. People aren't buying ONE CD right now, and the label thinks they're going to buy three and have to keep changing them all the time? People aren't stupid. They're getting a 15-track album spread over three discs instead of one (so it makes it seem as if they're getting more bang for their buck) and with the additional hassle of having to manage three discs and their CD player.

Just trim it to one disc with 10 or so GOOD songs on it. Is that so hard?

Here is what I assume it will be. 3 discs but packaged together and costing the price that one would. After all, 15 songs is one CD. If they are planning 3 separate releases, that's dumb! The story says they are bundled together and of different styles...I'm confused by some of the stuff you're saying.

Again, I doubt it will happen. Best case scenario is one disc with the songs separated into the three categories and with different headings....sort of like long suites.

I might be confused by the term "freestyle"...I'm thinking more Lisa Lisa. And that dates me, but it's fine. "Get Up" sort of hearkens back to that type of song. So does the song she did with Field Mob (? "So What"). I liked both of those.

I assume the Lil' Jon type stuff would be on the "Crunk" disc. Considering what I thought of most of that stuff....that might go in the garbage. I really hope they follow up with this. Sometimes stories like this are released but the product never comes out they way they said.

Exactly, i see Freestyle im thinking Lisa Lisa, Cover Girls and Cynthia etc...im not thinking Ciara. I do think this is alot of HYPE in a genre that is dieing very fast, that being "mainstream" POPRBHIPHOPRAP its all one thing at this point since no one really knows how to do any of them right.

Overall not feeling anything i have heard from this release, its just more of the same, mainly because everyone is using the same technology, sounds, producers etc...can we burn this down already and start over.

I don't have anything against Ciara and liked the last album (even though I didn't get into it much) but I don't know that anybody makes freestyle anymore!

I just cant get into her at all, the music doesnt really go anywhere for the most part, same themes same sounds, and theres just enough of "the formula" out there. I would totally have more respect if she dumped all the RB producers and pulled something out like Hilary Duff did, working with Richard Vission, totally turned Hilary into a more interesting POP star than 90% of the "so called divas". As for Freestyle, well, Expose is planning an album as are the Cover Girls and some others too from that day, MY hope is that they dont get corrupted by "the formula" just to cash in.
